Further, don't bet on it being the base engine, either:

The previous rumors of an European-only 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine by Edmunds was met with mixed reactions and debate. But, if this new rumor is true, all fans (or critics) of the next Mustang receiving the Ecoboost 4 cylinder turbo should be satisfied, as this means the 2015 Mustang will offer all powertrains - a V6, Ecoboost 4 cylinder, and a 8 cylinder.

But, we now have conflicting reports on this issue from two major sources, so time will tell which is actually true.

Will it be a redesigned Mustang by 2015, or just a new engine option to the current one?

I think your right, but didn't the old V6 get something like 305hp and 31mpg? I wonder how much MPG the new Mustang will get?

Yeah, the current 3.7L V-6 Mustang gets great mileage and does indeed have 305HP.

I'm guessing the new EcoBoost is going to shoot for V-6 (or better) performance with 30+ MPG on all fronts..

Turbo 4 and V8 we know. The question remains will there be a middle child and will it be NA V6 or EcoBoost V6. Turbo 4 will make current NA V6 power so money is on an EcoBoost 6 to be a step up, but below the V8.

Another possibility and I pray not, is a turbo 4 in base, turbo 6 in GT, and V8 will be a Shelby only affair. Anything and everything is rumormill for awhile

Thing is the turbo eco boost 4 will be built for boost just like the supercharged cobras and gt-500's are. So yes the coyote v8 mustangs will come out with more hp but lets think about this. I was Close to selling or trading in my Daytona Charger and MY 06 GTO on a 2013 mustang. But I can wait. The new Mustang is gonna be a complete redesign. Weigh less and have an IRS that was actually designed and for the car and tested and not an afterthought. I was so close to buying a 2013 and throwing a blower on it. but the new car will be sooo much better that i will forego the 5.0 and opt for the eco 4 with track pack im sure it will come with and take the lighter weight and boost it and let the aftermarket carry me away happily

Say goodbye to powertrain reliability with that engine, not to mention fuel economy.

The Ecoboosts so far have been terrible in terms of reliability, and mediocre in fuel economy.

I really don't like this trend of 4 cyl turbo that many automakers are obsessed with. Unless they can make a 4 cyl turbo that matches or beats a V6 in refinement, linear power delivery *and* fuel economy, what's the point?

I really hope Toyota doesn't go to 4 cyl turbos just for the sake of it. If they do make the move, I hope there is a real and noticeable improvement.

The only issues have been with the 1.6L EcoBoost not the 2.0 or venerable 3.5.

And with the NX200t you know Toyota/Lexus is getting turbos

The 1.6L has had the most issues, but the others have not been issue-free either. All the Ecoboosts have fairly mediocre fuel economy compared to their naturally aspirated V6 and V8 competition.

Yes I know Toyota is coming with turbos, what I meant was that I hope Toyota does it right. I hope the rumor of electrically-assisted turbos is true, or at the very least if they hopefully combine the turbo engines with Valvematic. Toyota is coming late to this latest turbo trend, but I just hope they do it properly.

Toyota doesn't do anything "just for sake." IMO i feel toyota has always gone its own route, even if its to the horror of most other car companies. ie: no turbos, 8-speed, slow to update. Im not saying these things are bad, im just not worry that toyota is trying to catch the jones.

In the end the 300hp is more than enough for that application and for the tuners its going to be even easier to make hp for dirt cheap. Its going to fly
