If you have the money why not, It's a much better car then the IS-F.

As long as it's the newer bodystyle I'd say yes. AMG V8's are some of the craziest sounding things I've ever heard. Seriously like a banshee from hell!!

Power-wise, it's a sold beast. So much aftermarket support for it as well. I don't like the newer MB taillights. I do remember shopping for a 2008 E63 when it first came out, and I thought I could see it in my driveway. MB still had its reliability issues then, and even the dealer I was talking to said that there might be some sooner than expected maintenance issues just from an ownership perspective. I figured the IS F wouldn't have the prestige of an AMG yet, but there's nothing like being one of the first to own one.

On a similar note, my friend owned one (actually traded it on yesterday) for a Lexus LS and said that he spent more on repairs than mods in the four years he owned one. For as long as they're under warranty, I think it's one of the best performing cars commanding so much class with its presence, but I couldn't handle the inevitable expenses later down the line.

Best of luck my friend! I know you spent a lot of time gathering parts for the IS F. Hopefully it works out.

I would not want to own one of those out of warranty, but under warranty, heck yes! That is a beast of a car. Really, I'd love to have a CLS63 AMG, but we're talking $100K for a lightly used one of those, and for that kind of money, I'm getting a brand new Porsche Cayman S and a slightly used Tacoma quad cab, haha.

If you're looking at a pre-2011 model, make sure the head bolt issue has been taken care of. Otherwise go have fun.

If you got the money, get one, and make sure it's certified with warranty if you're buying a pre-owned. Keep in mind,

Lexus IS F OEM Rotors = $300
E63 AMG Rotors = $800

Maintenance will kill you unless you got deep pockets.

BTW, a friend of mine is a tech for MB, and seeing E63s with 50k miles come to service and needing head gaskets replaced is a fairly common deal. I looked into getting an E63 AMG for about 30 seconds.

My boss used to own one, recall him loving that thing and saying its hard not to go over 120mph every chance he had.

Define "better".

Better handling, better reliability, better maintenance costs? How better?

A love the stories about "my friend is a tech".... What % of the E63s sold with 50K miles need replaced head gaskets -- 1% or 100%? If you can't afford the maintenance then don't buy it. Yes MB parts might be more expensive than Lexus parts. I would only let maintenance cost deter my decision IF I was making a practical purchase. Get the E63, it's an emotional purchase.

its a 2010 model....is it better to get the 6.3 v8 or try to find a 2012 for the bi turbo v8? With the biturbo v8 i heard you could chip it

thanks for all the input guys...guess the only thing that scares me is the maintenence.
