They better do something. BMW has lost their performance edge. Cars like the GS and IS have beaten their model in multiple magazines. I think BMW is realizing that if Lexus sells more car then maybe they need to soften up the cars

F10 has been a huge success, I doubt BMW will mess too much with it.
More tech, More power, Better gas mileage etc.
I hope they offer a TRUE sport suspension again like they did on the 2013 Msport models. So far car has been great.

Is it just me or does it feel like the F10 just came out last year?
Feels like some cars are evolving faster than ever before! I think Kia's got plans to make it 3 year lifetimes for every generation of their current models.
The spy shots seem to show an evolution, which is expected as some automakers are falling into their design groove. What is interesting in this photo is that the rearmost quarter windows don't seem to have BMW's iconic Hoffmeister kink. Maybe that is just a poor resolution thing.

Next BMW 5 Series sharpens up act
Exclusive: We reveal evolutionary look that aims to keep new BMW 5 Series ahead of next Mercedes E-Class
One of the UK’s best-selling executive cars, the BMW 5 Series, is set for an overhaul in 2016 – just in time to take the fight to a brand new Mercedes E-Class.
As you can see from our exclusive images, a styling rethink isn’t top of the list of priorities. The new model is set to retain a familiar profile, with refinements to the details helping to create a more modern, premium look that’s a bit sportier than the current-generation 5 Series. BMW knows full well that buyers in this class don’t want radical styling.
Key to the 5 Series’ appeal has always been its sharp handling, and the company is looking to improve things further with a new lightweight platform that can be tweaked to underpin anything from the 3 Series to the 7 Series.
By using more high-strength steels, aluminium and carbon fibre-reinforced plastic, BMW will hope to cut the kerbweight by about 100kg.
As well as improving agility, the new, lightweight materials should help stiffen up the 5 Series even further.
Under the bonnet will be BMW’s range of modular engines, built up of 500cc cylinders. These are already found in the MINI, with the 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, plus the 2.0-litre four-cylinder in the Cooper S. A 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel will power the ever-popular 520d, and BMW is weighing up whether buyers will be willing to drive a three-cylinder 5 Series.
Either way, the cleanest diesels are expected to dip below 100g/km, while plug-in hybrids will be offered for the first time on the 5. These will use a similar set-up to the BMW i8 supercar, which combines a 1.5-litre engine and an electric motor. The new M5 will get a refined 4.4-litre V8.
BMW sees a hi-tech future in store for the 5 Series, based around connectivity and semi-autonomous driving. We rode in a prototype last year that could take control on the motorway – knowing when to overtake, when to move out of the way of cars joining from slip roads and recognising that it couldn’t undertake. BMW said at the time the tech was around two years away, and providing there’s a change in the law, it will be offered on the next 5 Series.
If you want to do all the driving yourself, the 5 Series will have a raft of aids to make things easier. One pre-selects a lower gear as you approach a slower car and changes down as soon as you indicate.
Every 5 Series sold will come Internet-enabled and fitted with a SIM card to let drivers access apps on the go, such as music streaming services and Google search or just turn on the heating or air-con from your smartphone.
The saloon will arrive first – it’s expected in summer 2016, with prices starting from around £33,000. But it’ll be followed by a family of 5 Series models.
New BMW 5 Series Touring
Mercedes’ E-Class Estate has always lead the way for space, so BMW will want its all-new Touring to close the gap. Expect optional air-suspension to compensate for heavy loads.
New BMW 5 Series GT
The current Gran Turismo isn’t the sales success BMW had hoped, but flexibility of the new platform makes it easier to stretch wheelbase and widen tracks to create this more luxurious 5 Series.

Next generation BMW 5-Series Touring spied testing at the Nurburgring
Click here to view more photos
Expected to look a bit sportier
A prototype of the 2016 BMW 5-Series Touring has been spied undergoing testing on the Nürburgring.
It's been a while since we last had something to share about the next-generation BMW 5-Series but now a heavily camouflaged early prototype was spotted 'Ring testing and hiding what appears to be an evolutionary design.
Previous rumors suggested the mid-size Bavarian model would borrow design cues from the beautiful Gran Lusso Coupe concept but it seems BMW has decided to play it safe and just apply a moderate nip & tuck rather than overhauling the design.
While the styling might not represent a major departure, everything else will as the next-gen 5-Series is expected to ride on the "35up" platform and lose as much as 220 lbs (100 kg) thanks to a lightweight construction which will include the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). Engine lineup is believed to include a six-cylinder 3.0-liter turbodiesel with 347 HP & 660 Nm as well as an interesting quad-turbo M550xd version packing 408 HP & 750 Nm.
The range-topping M5 will reportedly come out in 2017 with as much as 626 HP (460 kW) and will be offered with an optional all-wheel drive setup. At the other end of the spectrum, the lower curb weight could allow BMW install a small three-cylinder turbodiesel rated at 150 HP (110 kW) which would grant the vehicle with a fuel consumption of only 3.9 liters / 100 km. A plug-in hybrid version is planned as well and could adopt a four-cylinder 2.0-liter gasoline engine working together with an electric motor.
The next-gen BMW 5-Series Sedan is expected to go on sale in July 2016 while the Touring derivative seen here should hit the market in November. The criticized "hunchback" 5-Series Gran Turismo version will make a comeback in 2017.

Next generation BMW 5-Series Sedan spied with production body for the first time
Click here to view more photos
Should lose 100 kg
The 2016 BMW 5-Series Sedan has been spied for the first time with a production-ready body but unfortunately the prototype was fully camouflaged.
So far we have seen prototypes of the next-gen 5-Series with a body combining panels from the current model and its successor and now our spies caught on camera the sedan featuring the entirely new body which will be an evolution rather than a revolution compared to the outgoing variant.
Although dressed in heavy camo, we notice the new mid-size executive sedan has different door handles, front wings air breathers, reshaped A-pillars, modified doors which boast a horizontal character line while at the back there’s a flatter rear window.
Believed to ride on the newly developed "35up" platform, the overhauled BMW 5-Series will likely shave off up to 100 kg (220 lbs) as a result of using a lightweight construction that will make use of carbon fiber among other advanced materials.
In terms of engines, expect to see a quad turbo developing 408 HP & 750 Nm in an M550xd variant while the flagship M5 is bound to arrive in 2017 with up to 626 HP (460 kW) and optional xDrive. The base model could be a 150 HP 3-cylinder turbodiesel while a plug-in hybrid derivative is also in the works and rumored to combine an electric motor with a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine.
The regular BMW 5-Series Sedan will allegedly hit the market July 2016, followed in November by the Touring version and in 2017 by the GT model.

2016 BMW 5-Series Sedan plug-in hybrid hides two fuel caps in latest spy pics
Click here to view more photos
Might not be available right away
The next-gen BMW 5-Series sedan has been spied yet again and it had two fuel caps indicating it was a plug-in hybrid variant.
The fully camouflaged prototype had an extra fuel cap on the front left fender for charging the lithium-ion battery pack part of the hybrid system that will likely be derived from the recently unveiled 3-Series plug-in hybrid prototype. That one has a four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine mixed up with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery providing a combined output of 245 HP & 400 Nm but expect these figures to grow for the larger and heavier 5-Series (G30).
In terms of styling, the new 5-Series will be influenced by BMW's flagship 7-Series model set to come out next year. Both of them will be riding on the new "35up" platform and in the case of the 5 this should enable a 100 kg (220 lbs) weight loss.
The conventional-powered next-gen BMW 5-Series sedan is believed to go on sale in July 2016 and chances are the plug-in hybrid derivative won't be available from day one so it will probably be launched early 2017.

We can both agree on that.
From what I've heard, it's an option.....so both RWD and AWD versions will be available (supposedly). This should satisfy one set of customers who want to go 'sideways' are are more daring on the racetrack............and on one end, those who want greater stability and for those who want something faster off-the-line (without that traction control light going on every time).

2016 BMW 518d with 150 HP three-cylinder engine and AWD 600 HP M5 planned?
M5 to shave off 180 kg
British media has managed to obtain some juicy details about the next generation BMW 5-Series (G30).
The overhauled 5-Series will ride on BMW's newly developed "35up" platform set to debut in this year's 7-Series. This will enable a substantial weight loss thanks to the use of aluminum, high-strength steel and carbon fiber which will lower the mid-size sedan’s weight by an average of approximately 80 kg (176 lbs) across the range.
However, the M5 will lose much more as CAR is reporting the range-topping model will go on a massive 180 kg (397 lbs) diet. It will continue to use the twin-turbo V8 4.4-liter engine which should deliver somewhere in the region of 600 HP (441 kW), just like in the limited-run M5 "30 Jahre M5" special edition. Rear-wheel drive will be standard but for the first time BMW will offer an optional AWD system.
At the other end of the spectrum, the base version is expected to take the shape of a 518d equipped with a three-cylinder 1.5-liter turbodiesel engine rated at 150 HP (110 kW) and enabling the model to return an impressive 72.7 mpg UK (60.5 mpg US or 3.88 liters / 100 km).
We already know from a recent batch of spy shots there's going to be an even more economical plug-in hybrid version, likely with an uprated version of the hardware found in the 3-Series plug-in hybrid prototype.
BMW is currently putting the finishing touches on its all-new 7-Series flagship model set to arrive in the following months. The overhauled 5-Series will be out in 2016 in three flavors: sedan, estate and the controversial GT.
