Man Builds Full-Scale Tonka Wrecker
OK, so some little boys never grow up. I haven't yet, and because you're reading this, you probably haven't either. Brad Doane built a real-life Tonka truck; every kid (and adult male) in his Menomone, Wisconsin neighborhood must be jealous.
Here's the build: http://www.igtmightyone.com/slideshow.html

Nice Job.
It appears to be a one-of-a-kind vehicle, so I'd guess (?) he has special insurance for it. I'd also guess that he avoids any risky towing buisness...especially with that primitive lifting mechanism in the back. Some jobs are simply routine and don't present many risks, but tow-truck drivers doing vehicle-reposessions or clearing vehicles out of illegal parking spaces can sometimes bite off more than they can chew. There are crazy car-owners out there, and when it comes to defending their cars, they will stop at nothing....even if police are present. The TV shows Lizard Lick Towing, Operation Repo, and South Beach Tow illustrate the kind of stuff that can happen, although at least some of those scenes are obviously staged for effect.

Yeah, it's not much of a hauler since the "winch" is hand operated and the cables are basically rope. Well, it's faithful to the original in that, and besides, Doane only built it for parades. It does impress though!
