hoping final product will be a bit less bland looking even if performance is great.

Few nice choices exist:
Tesla Model S
Porsche Panamera e-Hybrid
Lexus has had zero success with performance hybrids in US - LS600h and GS450h were sales failures.

I think if you look at the RC-F, theres not a ton that differentiates it from the RC, front bumper, rear bumper, side vent, hood vent and wheels. Thats really it, and I think it looks great.

We don't want it to look over the top. Some of the first test mules we saw had some aero-gimmickery which I personally didn't care much for.

Couldn't agree more. Full spindle, side vents, stacked quad exhaust, and by all means, wider fender flares to fit meatier tires--that's it.

Took 'em a while to figure it out that you need F-Sport package on your flagship midsize powertrain. Or they just counted on it as a refreshment down the road to spark the 450h interest again.
Like I said before the best four door all around vehicle Lexus currently has its lineup. Too bad it's overpriced.

THIS so very much.
Reason GS450h failed in the US ( but is thriving in the rest of the world) is that the GS450h doesn't have the straightline performance of the German mainstream V8s. As long as a theoretical hybrid GS-F has the performance to match an M5/E63MG/RS6 and is priced to compete, no one would hold its hybrid nature against it.
In fact, the instant on-demand torque of the electric component of its drivetrain would prove to be a selling point.

it would likely be very heavy, and VERY expensive, and therefore, very uncompetitive. would still be a fun car though.

I think GTR proved to everybody that "heavier than competition" is not an obstacle and future NSX will just reinforce the notion. As long as the hefty technology provides more benefits to a car with its integration than without it I will always give it a thumbs up.

It would not be as heavy, because it would not be a plug-in hybrid like the Germans, but as any other Lexus hybrid. It would also not be more expensive than the M5/RS6/E AMG, because the GS F would be cheaper overall, adding hybrid would just cover up the price difference. And the RC F is heavier than the M4, yet we don't feel its weight, what is not the case of the M4, which is lighter but feels heavier.

Co-signed to the above as well.

Most people buy base model engines, that includes German vehicles... very few buy V8's anymore.
