Maybe for you, sure the tech is impressive and the leather smells nice but they lack the refinement of upper echelon cars. I'll stick with my Benz t hank you very much.

Not sure. Less boost more reliability? change to reflect real hp - similar to how their EPA estimates were off? Just a few ideas

Yeah I agree, a luxury car is not just about tech features. Its about quality, precision, refinement.

While I would buy this all day over a Camry, I'm not going to trade my GS in on one.

2015 HYUNDAI SONATA DELIVERS SOPHISTICATED DESIGN AND MORE STANDARD FEATURES STARTING AT ONLY $21,150
Sonata Delivers Class-Above Features and Improved Driving Dynamics

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., May 22, 2014 – Hyundai Motor America announced pricing for the all-new 2015 Sonata begins at $21,150. From the base model 2015 Sonata 2.4-liter to a new range-topping Sport 2.0T Ultimate that offers class-above features such as hands-free Smart Trunk, Smart Cruise Control with stop/start capability, panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated seats and a heated steering wheel, the 2015 Sonata appeals to a wider range of customers than ever before.

"A strong value proposition has always been a cornerstone for Hyundai and the 2015 Sonata continues that tradition, with the base model priced $300 less than the model it replaces," said Bob Pradzinski, vice president of national sales, Hyundai Motor America. "Our customers are also asking for advanced safety and technology features, so we broadened the 2015 Sonata model line to include more premium comfort and convenience features on the upper trim levels. The mid-size sedan segment is incredibly competitive and we made a conscious effort to deliver a world-class mid-size sedan at an outstanding value."

The all-new 2015 Sonata offers a more refined look through the new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, stiffer body structure, better ride quality, reduced noise, vibration and harshness and advanced safety and convenience features. Sonata truly democratizes the premium design and convenient technology of the Genesis sedan for the mid-size sedan class. Production of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata is underway at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama plant in Montgomery, Ala. and the first retail units should begin arriving at dealerships by the end of the month.

2015 Sonata comes standard with seven airbags, including a new driver's knee airbag designed to help prevent the driver from sliding down the seat in a collision, which allows the other restraint systems to be more effective. Hyundai engineers also implemented many active safety technologies for the 2015 Sonata to assist drivers and help prevent accidents. No longer reserved for luxury cars, advanced safety technologies such as Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and a Lane Departure Warning System are all available in this mid-size sedan.

2015 Sonata SE, Sport and Limited models are powered by a revised 2.4-liter Theta II GDI four-cylinder engine that makes 185 horsepower and 178 lb. ft. of torque. New for 2015 is an Electronic Intake Continuously Variable Valve Timing (E-CVVT) system that improves performance in low temperatures and reduces emissions.

A revised 2.0-liter Theta II turbocharged GDI, also featuring E-CVVT, powers Sonata Sport 2.0T models. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is optimized for lower-RPM drivability and it produces 245 horsepower and 260 lb. ft. of torque. The twin-scroll turbocharger features a smaller turbine and compressor wheels, which provide better responsiveness and more torque in the low and mid RPM range.

2015 SONATA PRICE STRUCTURE Model Engine Transmission MSRP
SE 2.4L I4 6-Speed A/T w/SHIFTRONIC® $21,150 - $22,350
Sport 2.4L I4 6-Speed A/T w/SHIFTRONIC® $23,175 - $26,625
Limited 2.4L I4 6-Speed A/T w/SHIFTRONIC® $26,525 - $31,575
Sport 2.0T 2.0L Turbo I4 6-Speed A/T w/SHIFTRONIC® $28,575 - $33,525
Freight charges for the 2015 Sonata are $810 and not included in the prices above.

They've been doing a lot of re-tuning of engines to improve linearity, usability of the power curves, etc, as well as some MPG benefits, but at the cost of HP numbers on paper at least.

The 2.0t's in BMW and Audi's make 240 and 220 hp. respectively and they are usually well regarded in terms of performance and fuel efficiency. I agree with your points, there is more to these small turbo engines than pure/advertised horsepower.

I'm still scratching my head about the dated and boxy dash lines. I just can't see what they were trying to achieve by going back in time, unless to invent their on wacky retro look (?). Also bummed about the Christmas/rope lighting front LED's. There's no excuse for this in 2015. Everyone else (except Nissan) has fugured a way to make their front LED lights look cool and modern by now.

Hypocrisy.. So acura/Hyundai lower hp ratings on multiple models. When everyone else is raising them or at least holding the line.

Default 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco announced, returns 32 mpg US combined

Starts at 23,275 USD without 810 USD destination charge

Hyundai's U.S. division has added a new member to the 2015 Sonata lineup in the form of a thriftier Eco variant.

Those who are interested in saving a few dollars at the pump will be happy to hear the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco offers a class-leading 32 mpg US in the combined cycle. It will be possible thanks to a 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine delivering an estimated 177 bhp (132 kW) and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) sent to the front wheels through a newly developed dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox.

Hyundai says this frugal Sonata can do 28 mpg US in the city and 38 mpg US on the highway which makes it 10 percent more economical than the 2015 Sonata SE with the 185 bhp 2.4-liter Theta II engine.

Priced at 23,275 USD (without 810 USD destination charge), the 2015 Sonata Eco comes with a long list of standard goodies like a five-inch touchscreen display, Blue Link telematics system, rearview camera, chrome interior door handles and a ten-way power driver seat with lumbar support. Customers are also rewarded with automatic headlights, chrome front grille, stitching on the instrument cluster and side indicators mounted in the mirrors.

For an additional 4,100 USD, the Sonata Eco can be equipped with an optional Technology Package adding an eight-inch navigation touchscreen display, dual automatic temperature control, leather upholstery, chrome exterior door handles with welcome light, as well as a blind spot detection system with rear-cross traffic alert, lane change assist and additional items.

Production of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco will begin later this summer at the company’s plant in Alabama.

Default 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco Gains 7-Speed DCT, 38 MPG

Hyundai has expanded its 2015 Sonata lineup with a new Eco model.

Powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the 2015 Sonata Eco takes advantage of a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to deliver an estimated 28 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. Those are impressive considering the Sonata Eco has 177 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque and its 32-mpg combined rating is segment leading for a non-hybrid midsize sedan.

The 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco will start at $24,085 including destination and will begin production in Alabama this summer. The Sonata Eco comes standard with all the features of a Sonata SE, plus a chrome grille, side mirror-mounted turn signal indicators, automatic headlights, a 10-way power driver seat with lumbar support, stitching on the instrument cluster hood, chrome interior door handles, 5-inch color touchscreen audio, a rearview backup camera and Hyundai’s Blue Link infotainment.

The only option available on the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco is a Technology Package that costs $4,100 and includes an eight-inch navigation screen, a 4.2-inch color LCD multi-info display, Blind Spot Detection System and more.

Default 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L Gets Slightly Improved MPG

Official fuel economy numbers have been released for the 2.4-liter four-cylinder powered 2015 Hyundai Sonata.

The standard-trim Sonata equipped with the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine can now achieve 25 mpg in the city, 37 mpg on the highway and 29 mpg combined, an improvement of 1 mpg city, 2 mpg highway, and 1 mpg combined over the outgoing car.

Fuel economy for both the Limited and Sport-trimmed 2.4-liter Sonatas remains the same at 24 mpg city, 35 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined. That 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine puts out 185 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque.

The powertrains carry over nearly unchanged for the 2015 car, except for some minor tweaking that saw both engines lose a tiny amount of power. Fuel economy numbers for the more powerful 2.0-liter turbo four are not yet available.
