It's a bit disappointing that their "true lightweight" is over 3500 lbs. for a sports car it is quite heavy; but at least we know it will be extremely safe so if you make a "true mistake" you'll likely walk away from it.

Mercedes AMG GT to offer go-kart like handling [video]
Will be unveiled next month
Mercedes has released a new promotional video for the AMG GT, ahead of its debut next month.
In the latest clip, AMG CEO Tobias Moers says "We have definitely set new benchmarks in terms of performance, sound experience, driving dynamics and also the emotional experience with this new heart - the new V8." The latter is a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 510 PS (375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque.
AMG's Head of Engine and Powertrain Engineering, Christian Enderle, follows up by saying "The customer has a driving experience similar to a go kart. You can drive the vehicle with very, very high cornering speeds and the vehicle simply sticks to the road."
AMG's Michael Buscher also says the model weighs "quite a few kilograms" less than one of the benchmark vehicles. He also said the AMG GT will be lighter than many competitors.

Ever wonder how the high quality of an AMG is achieved? View a maybe-not-so-accurate look behind the scenes of two of the AMG development engineers, to see how they go about researching the do’s and don’ts of perfect exhaust notes.

What in this class is lighter? Maybe a few lotus's, a gt3. But they are all stripped down race cars. Remember that this car will have a/c, lots of computers, safety gizmos and it will be as luxurious as an S class. Im sure that MB will release a black series in a few years and it will be closer to 3000

Mercedes-AMG GT partially revealed in Driveclub PS4 video game screenshots
Click here to view more photos
Full reveal set for September 9
The Mercedes-AMG GT has been partially revealed through a series of screenshots from the upcoming video game Driveclub.
Just when everyone thought Mercedes and AMG were done with the GT's teasing game, yet another one has been released and it's the most revealing of them all. Seen here are several screenshots from the PS4-only videogame Driveclub which will feature the AMG GT as well as other products from Affalterbach such as the A45 AMG, CLA45 AMG, C63 AMG Coupe Black Series, SL65 AMG and the SLS AMG Coupe Black Series.
The Mercedes-AMG GT will be revealed in full next Tuesday although there's not much left to show taking into account the ridiculous amount of teasers released over the last few months. At its heart there's a new twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine which will be offered in two states of tune: 462 PS in the AMG GT and 510 PS in the AMG GT-S. The latter will need 3.8 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill before topping out at 192 mph (310 km/h).
Driveclub will be out exclusively on PlayStation 4 on October 7.
