+1. My heart aches for gtr owners as well. It also aches for those that buy computers, cell phones, TVs,etc. Don't they know something better is just around the corner? Chumps!

Not sure if they uped it in 2010 but every year after that, I think, the car got a small boost. Other than the power there were a ton of small and subtle tweaks to the suspension, tranny, ECU, and even the turbos

The interval I remember was: 480, 485, 530, 545............for 5 model years, so almost every year.

Seriously, how on earth does Nissan do it?

I mean, the VR38 is only a V6 engine............yet it produces so much power.

How on earth does Nissan do it?

At the cost of durability. Since they only have to warranty it for what 4 years? If it breaks after that they will shamelessly deny any responsibility.

I remember when it first came out it had launch control but if you actually use it, the glass cannon breaks. They actually void your warranty for using LC, a feature that they include, so don't be suprised if that engine cooks after a few years.

Not that big of a deal, you can get a new one for invoice and occasionally under invoice on the GTR forums. There is a '14 listed that is under invoice right now on the site.

As for the improvements each year, sure they are doing that but they are also increasing the price each time and not by a little bit. Remember these were selling in the $70's in 2009, now they are $100k and the improvements are not that significant (maybe the suspension change is but hp improvement is not a big deal, just add some boost or free flowing exhaust). As a result of this, the older cars have not depreciated that much so the early buyers are probably feeling pretty good.

Indeed.

I mean, if you look at the Audi 4.0 liter Twin Turbo V8, it's producing anywhere from 400 up to 500+ horsepower.

And that's asking for a lot already.

Yet for Nissan to ask for such power requirement (500+ HP) on their V6 engine............is really a much much more difficult task to demand.

It's mind boggling how they do it.

P.S.
I mean sure, Lancer Evolution cars with their 4 cylinder Turbo engines can be made to produce 1000+ horsepower

But how stable will its engine and components be when pushed to that extreme?

The GT-R has done what most other Japanese car makers have failed to do for a niche model--continual evolution and significant improvements year after year throughout a model's life cycle. I hope other Japanese car makers can learn from Nissan on this particular point. Imagine the NSX, S2000, MR2, etc. kept getting updates year after year like the GT-R--the sales wouldn't have tailed off and they didn't need to die a slow painful death. Huge respect for Nissan for keeping the GT-R alive AND competitive!

Yep I have a friend that's had 2, a 2010 and a 2012. For me, it was literally scary fast....absolutely VIOLENT. Brutal.

Still don't like that interior much.

If all you care about is speed and care-free handling, get a GTR....

The GT-R is a monster. I would love to have a car that powerful.

However I prefer the looks of the older Skylines. The Nismo GT-R's power in an R33/R34 body would be so cool.
