Just tells you what a tremendous deal the current X5 is. For example, my 2010 335 was a couple hundred bucks less than 50k, and it didn't even have premium package, yet my 2012 fully loaded x5 5.0 was $63k out of the door after discounts. Its twice as much car as the 335, and the price was simply a steal. No wonder the new gen is going up in price.

I have been shopping the X5 and waiting for the '14 and when I was at the dealership the large increase in price is really not as big as people think because of what is included as standard features that used to be options. So you really have to look at what you are getting standard over what used to be options on the previous model. Kind of like the '14 GX, sure it's based model is cheaper than the previous version but you are getting much less.

This generation of BMW's has failed to excite me as well. I'm just not a huge fan of anything they've put out recently. That being said, I like the iPad sticking out of the dash look. I think Mercedes/BMW/Audi have the right idea here because it lowers the cowl and allows the dash to slope down after the instrument binnacle, increasing visibility.

I think both Acura and BMW didn't want to alienate loyal customers thus the exterior design barely looks new. When you have a loyal group you don't have to push boundaries. I also prefer the more muscular previous X5. The same thing happened to the ML, went from masculine, butch to rather bland and staid. Honestly for all the **** talking about the RX design every generation they sure did follow it.
But oh, they have LED lights
To me the previous X5 pricing was attractive in many ways. Now that this has climbed a bit well I think people are going to maybe try that Range Rover out. It even has a 7 seat option too.

I see it like the changes the Infiniti FX went through. 1st generation looked great, very masculine and brawny looking. The 2nd gen FX looked far more feminine and never looked right to me, and I saw more women driving them too. Same thing with the new X5 now. Maybe BMW is trying to attract more female buyers with their model lineup? Not sure what their current split is on that across their line.
The point about pricing being a lot higher because of more standard equipment being included is probably valid. I priced out a 5-series and was blown away by the "base price", but realized later that I didn't actually need to check any of the option boxes really. Still, BMW Navigation stinks, and if you just love how BMWs drive and want a "basic" model without all of the techno doo-dads and other gizmos you can't get them anymore, except on maybe the 3-series. Maybe BMW is trying to send us all a message. It's not about how the cars drive or feel to drive anymore. It's about the look and the techno doo-dads.

this is exactly where the X5 customers will go...and even though the Range got a bit softer as well, it's still the best looker between the two

On the other hand, the RR and Evoque are very handsome cars, IMO.

The new version looks so much more feminine. The older version was sportier looking by far. If I drop that kid of coin on a car I want to drool as I walk up to it. This thing wouldn't do it for me.
Obviously its been upgraded in its features, safety, etc, BUT that thing looks so dull. Not sure BMW has gone in this direction. The X5 was the luxury SUV that all men wanted ( before the Cayanne).....not sure now

AC Schnitzer Rolls Out New BMW X5 F15 Tune with up to 525PS for Geneva
BMW Group specialist AC Schnitzer will be one of many tuners hosting a world premiere at the 84th Geneva International Motor Show this week. The main course concerns their tune for the third generation BMW X5, codenamed F15, launched onto the market last year.
The Aachen-based modifier has prepared six performance tunes for the X5, highlighted by the engine upgrades for the M50d diesel that shoots out 430PS (424hp), up from the standard 381PS (376hp), and for the 50i V8 turbocharged petrol producing 525PS (518hp), up from 450PS (444hp). Details on the other packages are to be announced during the Swiss event.
To improve contact with the road, there's an AC Schnitzer sports suspension spring kit that lowers the body by 30 mm (front) and 20 mm (rear), and a choice of 20-, 21- and 22-inch wheels available in different styles and colors.
AC Schnitzer's dress up kit includes front skirt and rear aprons, an integrated rear diffuser and different tail pipe finishers for the outside, and aluminum pedals and foot rest, together with a key-holder and foot mats for the cabin.
