GM has used HD on their 1500 models since 2001. Now, my family has traditionally been a little slower in the adoption of technology, but I don't think HD televisions were that prominent back then.

Official Press: Gains 8-Speed
2015 Chevrolet and GMC Pickups, SUVs to Offer Eight-Speed Transmission
DETROIT – Chevrolet and GMC have confirmed a new eight-speed automatic transmission will be standard on 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra and GMC Yukon Denali/Yukon XL Denali models equipped with the 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8.
The GM-developed Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed is approximately the same size and weight as the Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic. Its 7.0 overall gear ratio spread is wider than GM's six-speed automatic transmissions, providing a numerically higher first gear ratio to help drivers start off more confidently with a heavy load or when trailering. The 8L90 also enables numerically lower rear axle ratios, which reduce engine rpm on the highway.
With 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, the 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8 is the most powerful engine offered in any light-duty pickup, and offers a maximum available trailer rating of 12,000 pounds, based on SAE J2807 Recommended Practices. As with other EcoTec3 engines, it seamlessly switches to four-cylinder operation under lighter loads to improve fuel economy.
Additional technical details and the EPA estimated fuel economy will be announced closer to the start of production in the fourth quarter of 2014.

That 8-speed should be standard on all truck engines. Typical chinyzy trickle-down. What better and easier way to gain ground than to just make it standard, like it's going to be anyway in a year or two.
Also, I always have to chuckle when I hear the word "Eco-anything" related to such a beastly and thirsty engine. Psychological marketing to fool the public, just like "Ecoboost" (poor mpg's) and "clean diesel" (dirtier than gas engines).

2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD spied, could be testing a new diesel engine
Company could replace the 6.6-liter Duramax V8
A couple of mysterious Chevrolet Silverado HD pickups have been spied undergoing testing in the United States.
While the models feature a camouflaged front end, they don't appear to be facelifted variants as most of the bodywork is unchanged. The only noticeable difference is a camouflaged hood which has a large air intake. This suggests the prototypes are testing a new engine.
There's no word on what's under the hood but the red prototype has a prominent diesel sticker on the rear bumper. This likely means we can expect a new diesel engine to replace the 6.6-liter Duramax V8 that develops 397 bhp (296 kW) and 765 lb-ft (1,037 Nm) of torque.

Chevrolet Silverado University of Texas Edition unveiled
Just in time for football season
Chevrolet has quietly introduced the 2015 Silverado University of Texas Edition.
Designed to appeal to diehard Longhorn fans, the University of Texas Edition has a Sunset Orange Metallic exterior with chrome side steps and special graphics on the bed and tailgate.
The University of Texas package costs $795 and will only be available to customers who order Silverado Double Cab (LT or LTZ) or Crew Cab (LTZ) variants with the Texas Edition package.
According to Chevrolet Truck Marketing Director Sandor Piszar, “The special-edition Silverado is a natural fit for Chevrolet in Texas, where a Longhorn fan lives in one out of every three households, and those fans are almost twice as likely as average consumers to buy a truck.”

GMC Gives 2015 Sierra Carbon Fiber Graphics
GM is up to its old stripy tricks again, this time with the new 2015 GMC Sierra Carbon Edition that follows in the footsteps of the 2015 Chevy Silverado Rally.
Whereas its Chevy cousin employed black matte stripes, the somewhat more upscale Sierra goes for fancier (faux) carbon fiber graphics. Not that it doesn't look good, but calling it the 2015 Sierra Carbon Edition is pushing it…
The package is available in three different versions on the 2015 Sierra 1500 starting with the base Carbon Edition offered on the double cab model that has a black painted grille, carbon fiber graphics, and body-colored trim.
It also gets added standard content such as remote keyless entry, a 110-volt power outlet and light-emitting diode, or LED, cargo box lighting.
The second package is the Carbon 20 Edition offered exclusively on the SLE Double-Cab that sports 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels (hence the name).
Finally, there's the Carbon 22 Edition, available on both Sierra SLE double- and crew cab models, which gains four-inch black tubular side steps, 22-inch black alloy wheels and dual-zone climate controls.
All Carbon Editions can be had with two- or four-wheel drive and either a 285hp 4.3L V6 or a 355hp 5.3L V8, with prices starting from $33,075 for the Base version, $38,275 for the Carbon 20 and $42,270 for the Carbon 22.

Sierra Elevation Edition Raises Bar for Sport Trucks
Double-cab model offers bold appearance and uplevel content
DETROIT – GMC today introduced the 2015 Sierra Elevation Edition, a new entry to the sport pickup truck market. The Elevation Edition, which goes on sale later this year, offers a combination of style and content unavailable from competitors in the sport truck segment.
"Much in the same way the Sierra Denali and Sierra HD Denali models raised the standard for premium pickup trucks, the Sierra Elevation Edition will surprise and excite customers shopping for a sport pickup," said Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president, Buick and GMC. "With its striking looks, sophisticated connectivity features and legendary capability, the Elevation Edition raises the standard of what a sport pickup truck can be."
Built on the strong foundation of the standard 2015 Sierra 1500 double-cab pickup, the 2015 Sierra Elevation Edition incorporates a body-colored grille surround, color-keyed door handles, mirror caps, side moldings and front and rear bumpers designed to give Elevation a sporty monochromatic appearance.
Elevation models also feature premium headlamps with distinctive light-emitting diode, or LED, lighting, fog lamps, and black-painted 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
All Sierra Elevation Edition models are equipped with remote keyless entry, power mirrors, a 110-volt AC power outlet, and LED cargo box lighting. Advanced connectivity is included with every Elevation Edition, as a 4.2-inch Intellilink color touchscreen audio system and Bluetooth phone connectivity are standard. Elevation Edition models also feature OnStar with 4G LTE Connectivity, which provides an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot for up to seven devices.
The 2015 Sierra Elevation Edition is offered with two- or four-wheel drive. A 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V-6 engine is standard equipment, and delivers 285 horsepower, 305 lb-ft of torque, and EPA highway ratings up to 24 mpg. A 355-horsepower, 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8 is optional.
The 2015 Sierra Elevation Edition will be available at GMC dealerships by the end of 2014. Pricing for the Elevation Edition will be announced later.

Chevy's Silverado Toughnology Concept Sounds Lame, Looks Good
Chevrolet is highlighting the extensive use of stronger and lighter high-strength steel on its 2015 Silverado with a new concept at this week's State Fair of Texas.
Named the Silverado 'Toughnology' (get it?) it's more like a precursor of a special edition than a real concept, with Chevy giving it a special paint job that emulates the appearance of raw steel accented with steel molecule graphics and a matte black hood.
Additional visual enhancements include black and chrome exterior accents, Matchbox car-like 22-inch alloy wheels mounted on off-road tires, fender flares, smoked lights, grille inserts, a tonneau cover and tubular assist steps.
The stock 5.3-liter V8 engine with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque gets a performance air intake system and exhaust, with other upgrades including beefier brakes.
