A good diff. just maximizes the available traction from the 2 tires, but is still only 2 tires.

The future in high-power sports cars is in electronic differentials sending power to whatever wheel you need it, with a rear bias to re-create the RWD feeling.

Unless of course we see electric cars, which will re-create the same effect by having a motor driving each wheel.

And we will always have people screaming that this is an abomination of a sports car and sticking to their RWD with merely a mechanical TORSEN differential.

It's only bad if the essence of M is not captured per each M vehicle. If AWD makes it a better car then by all means, otherwise perhaps RWD and reminiscent of old M cars of yore is in order
