that was a joke of a program too. Dealers often charged MSRP during CFC since every one was walking in with a voucher, so people didnt save anything. More unintended consequences.

Well, I can agree with you more on that (the Cash-for-Clunkers Program) more so than on the GM/Chrysler bailouts, which, IMO, actually accomplished something positive. The CFC program was indeed a joke. While it did help stimulate short-term new-vehicle sales, what it also did was needlessly ruin a lot of perfectly good usable vehicles that had been traded in. Technicians told me that when dealerships got a used-vehicle in trade on the CFC program, they were required to, by law, to drain out all the engine oil and then run the engine until it seized, thereby not even making it good for spare parts anymore. The government simply didn't want the older vehicles on the road any more, regardless of if they still had some usable life left in them.
