drove many a pontiac rental car. they were universally AWFUL.

Agreed. I was mainly but poorly referring to the newer Saturns.

Except for the G8 GT (which was a hoot to drive), and the Solstice, which was top-down fun on a nice day (you could appreciate that in your former Miata), I'd generally have to agree. Pontiac interiors, especially, with a couple of exceptions, tended to be monotone gray or black and poorly-done, with materials that would make even a Dodge Caliber's look nice in comparison. The G6 hardtop-convertible, though, offered an more-secure alternative to the popular Chrysler rag-top convertibles, at a good price.
