He likes the pricing of the SLK, but likes that the CL offers more room and power. Apples to oranges.

When or if, did they stop having electrical issues?

I kinda wish Lexus would have made something similar.

I would have been happy with a reskin MKII and MKIII MR-2 but with a Lexus badge and nice leather interior.

I think hes going with the SLK. Its cheaper to buy, own, and keep up with. It also gets way better MPG than the CL.

I full heartedly agree. Lexus needs a SLK, TT, Z4 player. Just like they needed a 4-Series, A5 competitor with the RC. And they need to bring back the SC or LF-LC against the SL, 6-Series, XK, S-Class Coupe etc..

Oh how far mercedes has come in 15 years. That SLK looks like he would be thrown back into the stone age. Im not sure how painted interior ever got approved or met any of their durability testing.

Anywhoo, its a tough call. the CL would probably be more reliable but it probably has more things that can go wrong. But it looks newer, better, and much more up to date. If he is only looking at these two cars, I would go for the CL. 100K+ MSRP for 13K? Its a steal

Seems like there's no clear line per se, but newer models, in the last 4-5 years, have been getting better. But the older ones you are looking at still have a definite risk.

Yeah but hes still cheap lol. $4.9k > $13.5k.

I forgot to mention, one of the reason why hes looking at something else is because he has a 2001 Sequoia. It gets like 12 miles in the city :/ He spents like $3,500 a year on gas alone.

The CL500 is what 14 city and 22 hwy? SLK comes in at 19 city and 28 hwy. Not a Prius, but still better than the Sequoia and CL500.

Toyota could just take the FR-S/86 and reskin it. Put in that new 2.0 turbo with a leather interior in and done.

I think Lexus needs a new SC based on the GS platform. Priced it at $70k-$80k. That would be a SL and 6-Series competitor.

The LF-LC I think would be more in line with the S-Class coupe and that rumored 8-Series (2 door 7-Series). 100k+ car

Thats one thing I love about Mercedes, they have so many sports car and or sport coupes.

SLS
SL
SLK
CL
E-Class coupe
C-Class coupe

Upcoming
SLC
SLA. fwd :/ (rumored?)
