I dont see the TTV6 from the LS. I mean if Lexus is serious about distancing themselves from being thought of as a nicer Toyota. How would the owner of the $90k LS feel when some punk pulls up in a $50k Supra with the same engine? At the end of the day, it will sell like 500 copies a month so who really cares? Maybe the 10's of Supra tuners that are still out there hoping for a Supra with a "3JZ."

This Supra sounds like it will cost double what 86 does with 100hp more....and no manual.
For 60k, you can buy GT350 or Camaro ZL1 or even Corvette - all pushing over 500hp!

This car should be mid to high 30s base for 4cyl and low to mid 40s for the 6.

I'm predicting an 3.0-3.5L I6 TT. I dont think they would put an NA I6, but I'm predicting they will put the current 2.0T currently available in the GS, IS, and RC

the price will be the same as good condition 93-98 USDM TT MKIV's Supras selling today

Default Is the Toyota Supra returning with only 335 hp?

I posted this in the Supra update thread the other day but seems relevant here as well.

A post on the SupraMkV forum reveals a list of BMW internal codes that might help shed light on Toyota’s next Supra. According to the list, the U.S. market will get two different versions of the BMW-developed powertrains: code names DB23 and a DB43 of the Toyota-spec J29 chassis.

The DB23 will be related to the Z5 30i, which likely means a turbocharged I4 under the hood. The DB43 will, of course, be a turbocharged I6 variant based on the BMW Z5 40i. Want to row your own gears? According to this list, you’ll need to track down a vintage Supra -- the models listed here will be automatic only. In Europe, there will be manually shifted versions of the Z4’s replacement, but none of those will bear a Toyota badge.

There isn’t a mention of an all-wheel-drive system or a hybrid driveline in this code sheet, so there's still hope for more powerful and stick-shift versions of the Supra to come later.

There’s still no word on when the Supra will see auto show lights, but we imagine we’ll see something official about the car by the end of next year.

I don't think LS buyers see Supra buyers as "punks". The Supra has shared a engine with Lexus models in the past and there was no issue. The Supra turbo outperformed every Lexus model and the new Camry will have more hp then the current ES. There is going to be some overlap with models and I don't think owners of either brand really care much.

The rumored engines going into the Supra are extremely disappointing. I would not be thrilled if the Supra got a tuned 400+hp engine from the new LS but it would be be better then a BMW 4 cyl and BMW 6 cylinder putting out only 335hp. If Toyota is not doing its own inline 6 with 400+hp I would have preferred a 8 cylinder either a larger NA one or a smaller disp. V8 twin turbo with a lot of tunability.

Based on the look and proportions of the camo cars driving around, being based on a lower end BMW, and BMW 4 and 6 cylinder rumored engines I have no interest in this car anymore, sounds like a huge disappointment and not a real Supra replacement.

I do hope the Supra will not be a bigger GT86 and actually have a nice amount of horsepower, say 400-500.

Time will tell. I do hope it will still look like the concept.

.
But Lexus is going for the "we are not an expensive Toyota" thing so sharing an engine from your flagship is contradictory. I understand the ES and Camry, but when you charge $80-$100k for your car, there better not be an component sharing other than an acoustic glass or an alternator here and there. I think at $35k with the Turbo I6, it will be a decent seller, especially with the show car styling. I mean it will be a fun ride for those that arent in the Fast and Furious crowd.

Its about pricing more than anything having to do with HP. The GT86, at $25 to close to $30, with a buzzy underpowered 4cyl is a poor value. Its great for the tuner crowd and people that likes driving more than anything else. But that's a small population as evident by the sales numbers. I feel like the Supra is going with the same formula as the 86, handling over power and a poor value relatively. I see this car being relatively successful if they price it right, say mid $30's. If they price it in the $40k range, it will sell in very limited numbers.

Mid $30k range is RAV4 territory. My money is on starting around $45k on up to at least $55k.

Agreed I see the Supra being a mid 50's and up car. Mid 30's definitely too low considering the current price point of the 86.

The BRZ/86 tops out at $30k and starts at $25k.

Who the hell is gonna pay $50k for a 4cyl Supra with 240hp?

You can say same thing about the 2JZ and its "320hp" - way underrated.
It was making way more than that.

Why would Toyota lower its quality standards and allow a BMW-made engine inside a Toyota badged product???
