Europe's Facelifted 2017 Lexus IS Range Bows In Paris
The facelifted 2017 Lexus IS range is celebrating its European debut at the Paris Auto Show, five months after therefreshed model was revealed online.
For the 2017 model year IS, Lexus opted to remain true to the outgoing model's bold design, but have updated it on a few fronts. For starters, the front fascia has been revised and now incorporates updated headlights with a slightly different shape, a revised version of the Japanese marque's customary spindle front grille as well as a different bumper with larger air intakes.
The new dark chrome front grille of the updated IS range also now incorporates functional brake ducts on either side.
Elsewhere, the exterior of the model has been updated with new 16-, 17- and 18-inch wheel designs as well as a reshaped character line stretching the length of the car. Changes at the rear include new taillights, rectangular and chrome-finished exhaust tips. In Europe, Deep Blue Mica and Graphite Black have been added to the exterior paint palette.
Inside, the facelifted range enjoys a larger multimedia display, now measuring 10.25-inches rather than seven. Refinements have also been made to the speedometer and tachometer while new cupholders have been installed. Select markets will also receive optional Nuance Black and Noble Brown color schemes.
In Europe, the range of engines go unchanged. That means the IS 300h will continue to utilize a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine mated to an electric motor. On the European combined cycle, it returns 65.7 mpg UK and emits 97 g/km of CO2 emissions.
Alternatively, European buyers will be able to opt for the smaller 241 hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder coupled with the same eight-speed automatic transmission as the potent RC F.
Pricing details and delivery dates will be announced shortly.

Revised cupholder, RT wrist rest, bigger screen (and likely Gen9 nav), slim bezel rear view mirror. Nice improvements. Still the same craptastic rough plastic steering wheel bezels. They didn't update it to the GS, ES, RX, LX one. It does gain a small silver strip though

Chateau seems to be making a sweep across the brand's line-up. I wonder if it looks as mundane in person as the photos. The previous beige had more character and depth.
Personally, I don't feel this interior is aging too well. It's full of perfect square and rectangles, which is too easy to think about and process. That equates to forgettable, which accelerates aging.

IS dash seems like it was put together by available and affordable parts first cause not a lot of things make sense in it and there are many visible afterthoughts. Gear leaver, remote touch, cup holders and drive selector positioning look like they were just thrown together and then there is some big blank space reserved for just two seating ventilation buttons. Both size and position of the shifter is wrong in this layout, your hand constantly has to maneuver around it or over it. Remote touch is something you use a lot more frequently than the gear lever or drive selector so it makes sense to have remote touch in the space of a the gear shifter instead. It would look weird but it would be more functional and that would be just a quick fix, nothing fancy. And that gear lever, shifter however you want to call it has not place in todays age inside a premium vehicle. It's unnecessary huge and it's still mechanical while everyone went electronic. And there is a case of wood veneer placement that has no cohesion to it at all, it's just randomly thrown at available spaces. It looks good on door handles but it looks so out of the place when there is no center stack or center strip to bring it all together, that glove compartment piece is just like ignition button "oh look we can put it here". RC layout fixed most of these, it is a lot more ergonomic and touchpad makes so much more sense. Center running stack in RC could have been all wood with cutout cupholders, shifter and drive selector placed on top of it and without incline for seat ventilation. Then wood/aluminium veneer would appear complete in the car.
