Default Audi A4's LED DRL shut one side off when turn signal's on

this is ridiculous. i've seen it when the current model launched back in '09, i thought they would fix this during the '13 mid-cycle refresh, but apparently they didn't. just saw a brand new '14 model with the same retard one sided-DRL while left turn signal was on this morning. is there something i'm missing here, seems like a simple fix to me, is there a reason (safety maybe?) they left it like that. i don't remember seeming one with the same issue on any other models except A4.

LOTS of cars do this, so that you can clearly see the turn signal indicator. so yes, it's for safety.

Yup. It is possible to change this setting but don't know if many Audi owners do it.

Yup.

I always wondered how many people thought this happened by accident.

I also think it's lame. There are many cars that DON'T do this

It depends on how close the turn signal is to the DRL element...there are definitely certain cars where it's difficult to see the turn signal amid the dazzle from the DRL.

Audi' lights are more form than function.

Their turn signals are timid and hard to notice. Especially the rear signals

So it's good then that the DRL goes off so other drivers can see them?

I agree. Since few owners disable them, they either like them that way, don't mind it, or, don't care.

Also saw this on a new GMC Acadia yesterday. One was behind me while turning onto my street. As with the Audis, it always makes me think they have a non-functioning DRL, then the turn signal turns off, and happily, symmetry is restored…

I see some audis that do not turn off the DRL...I am not sure if this can be customized by the dealership
