I'm a Cadillac man through and through(owned 3 different vintage, body on frame, RWD boats over the years), and I must say Cadillac lost me through the FWD Northstar years. Ever since 2008ish with the Escalade and CTS, they have won me back, both of them have the "look" and "presence" that was so lacking from about 1985 to 2004ish.

If I were to buy a new car today for under $100k, it would be the last gen CTS-V wagon. Or maybe the coupe. Both are simply stunning, no compromise designs. I do love the look of the 1st Gen CTS as well, but the interior is an ugly piece of junk(its bolted together well enough, its just a horrid design).

That said, Cadillac isn't in the same league as Lexus, Audi, or higher end Benz models in terms of interior design. The materials are great, but man its way too busy with too many contrasting colors, textures, trim, bits of flash, etc. Plus the Cadillac CUE system sucks, GM's standard infotainment package in Chevys/Buicks is far easier to use, even if it doesn't have as many features.

I've driven the Cruze a few times and I thought that it was rubbish.

The Commodore SS (V8) is good value for money. But the interior quality and other aspects of it are cheap.

I think the vette is the only one I'm interested in.

I would buy a new GM vehicle, and they're the only American brand I trust. In fact, my other car is a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 w/all options. Before this was a 2006 GX470; I wanted to return to the GX nameplate but couldn't make a deal w/ the dealer. Sticker price on the Z71 was a bit high for a Chevy but markdowns brought the total price to $47k. I did "settle" a little bit, but what can ya do. Several GM products also appeal to me: the C7 (obviously), the Silverado/Sierra, 15 Colorado/Canyon, 14 Impala, Lacrosse, Regal, Verano, CTS, ATS, etc...

If you test-drive one, Mike, go for the V6 option. I said in my Impala review that I thought the V6 should be standard in a car this size. The interior plastics in this car aren't necessarily the best, but the combination of ride comfort/handling/steering response has to be seen to be believed.

Honestly the only GM vehicles I ever see me owning/continuing to own are the large SUV's. Had great experiences with the Yukon Denali and Escalade.

Agreed 100%. I enjoy reading the improvements and checking them out, but not ready to put down money yet...

I think this sums it up for me. I really like the styling of the Caddy lineup; but once you add on a few options, the price is no better than any competitor vehicle, all of which have a proven track record. Plus, the Caddy reliability is just not there yet. And I saw the CUE system at the Philly Auto Show--it's atrocious.

I like the styling of the new Impala--but the car is just too large for my taste.

I also saw the Regal GS at the Auto Show--really sharp looking. And with the reliability to boot. But once I found out that it comes with a tire inflator kit instead of a spare or run flats, it was immediately off my list. If it wasn't for that, I would look at that car a lot closer.

+1 put me down in this camp too.

gm's making some really fine products.

for me though they either don't fit what i might want (even if a great vehicle like the C7 i drove - wow), or there's something lookswise or features (missing) that makes it not quite a home run.

I love the Corvette and CTS. Respect the ATS, too, but would choose an IS over it.

I always liked the Tahoe and Suburban, but the newest generation is just awful looking.

What does your old Explorer have you would want that the new GM SUVs don't? Or are you talking about a NEW Explorer vs. its GM competition?

Cannot buy one out of principal after what the govt. did to the bondholders in order to pay off the UAW.

^^^ I have to agree with this...

However, if I were going to buy a GM product, it would be a C7 or CTS-V.
