Default Holden Trax LTZ Turbo announced

Features a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine

Holden has introduced a new range-topping Trax LTZ Turbo.

Designed to appeal to performance-oriented buyers, the model has a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 138 bhp (103 kW) and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission which will enable the compact crossover to consume 6.9 L/100km (34 mpg US / 40.9 mpg UK).

Since the Trax LTZ Turbo sits at the top of the range, it comes nicely equipped with rain sensing wipers, fog lights and 18-inch alloy wheels. The model also has heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and "Sportec" trim. Other highlights include a power sunroof, a rear view camera and a MyLink infotainment system with Bluetooth / USB/ iPod connectivity.

The Trax LTZ Turbo will go on sale later this month and pricing starts at $29,990 AUD.

I did an MM full-review not long ago on the Buick Encore version. Except for the interior, wasn't impressed. The biggest problem is that, even with the turbo, there just isn't enough engine in it, even by my conservative driving standards.

Actually, Hoovey, that's an interesting comparison. The Chevy/Geo Tracker, though, like its Suzuki Sidekick twin (from which it was rebadged), still had some notable differences, such as a very short-wheelbase 3-door version, a Jeep Wrangler-like no-frills interior, and pastel Easter-Egg paint colors like yellow, lime-green, purple, baby-blue, etc...

Yes differences but filling a void where the Tracker left off. So essentially yes a reincarnation. Even the name Trax is similar to Tracker

Lets hope this new one is a bit more refined than the old bucket of bolts. The old Trackers were rebadged Suzuki's, so the mechanicals were pretty solid. They actually have a cult following in Latin America, as a good, cheap, reliable vehicle that will get you to where you need to go, no matter how bad the road. IE, abuse it, they don't break.

Main thing nobody has mentioned about the new "Trax" is how horribly small it is inside. A Corolla has a bigger trunk than this thing with the seats up, at least that's how it was in the Buick version. Best bet is to just spend another 2-3k and buy yourself a Rav4, CR-V, or Equinox.

Buick is exceeding expectations with the Encore, an even cheaper Chevy version may drive some volume too

I'm usually against these things, but to my eye it looks quite nice. Exterior is smooth and clean, with no crazy or fru-fru design elements thrown in. The worst I find points to the cheap and silly sail window above the sprouting side mirrors, the frumpy vertical taillights, and the needlessly mismatched gauge shapes. Beyond that, it may be appealing to the masses who want a cheap SUV with a warranty.

thinking of moving back to Denver area and I would never consider this....altho I think it looks nice (exterior).

Default Is GM Considering A GMC Version Of The Chevy Trax?

At the 2015 Chevrolet Trax's recent US launch, one reporter asked an engineer if another GM brand could get a version of the small crossover. The answer wasn't "no."

According to Mike Colias at Automotive News, the question of GMC getting a version got an "I think that is certainly possible," response from Trax chief engineer Al Manzor.

Which is a touch surprising because the Buick-GMC division of GM already has the Buick Encore, itself twinned with the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka. It probably goes without saying that GM has discovered small crossovers and likes them and their profits.

But a GMC version of a vehicle there's already a Buick and a Chevrolet version of screams of overlap. GM already has this with the Chevy Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia, but I'll let them slide on that a bit because that was an Old GM decision.

And what exactly is "Professional Grade" about a GMC version of a Chevy Trax? That may be the biggest knock against the idea.

What GM could be hinting at, however, is some sort of smaller GMC based off of a compact platform, which is a good idea. I'm just hoping its far and away different from the Trax/Encore/Mokka formula.

GM, as a rule, doesn't classic badge-engineer or clone as much as they used to (witness the major differences between the Impala/LaCrosse/XTS, all done on the same platform). But, yes, in THIS particular case (as with their pickup trucks and some Opel/Buick sedans), the cloning between the Mokka/Trax/Encore is obvious.
