they just said they only want toyota and nothing else. they love toyota so much that they aren't even gonna test drive mazda3 and probably they didn't even bother checking out hyundai, nissan, chevy, ford, vw, honda, etc. asking how's the car they will going to buy is kinda weird to me. i mean they have no choice right? it's corolla or nothing.
The new Corolla is leaps and bounds better.

I think the difference is that "What are CL's thoughts on a new Corolla" and "Talk me out of buying a new Corolla" are different statements. The OP was presented as the first statement, when it was meant as the second one.

The 10th gen's dash was entirely hard plastic, the door cards were very thin and known to break, the center console was hard plastic, the cloth was cheap, the headliner was cheap, a/c controls were primitive with louvers and cables, etc. it goes on and on. The previous generation Corolla has got to the be the only car in recent memory that had to have big updates almost every year to update it against the competition. The new front and rear for 2011 that came a year earlier than usual, the new hubcaps and Bluetooth system for 2012 that looked hideous and aftermarket, and yet again another new Bluetooth system this time the touch screen for 2013, that also looked aftermarket. The car got dated and fast.
The 11th gen literally corrected all of the above. Dashboard is soft touch plastic, door panels are sturdier and have thicker padding in the cloth, the headliner is woven and plush, the center armrest is padded, the door armrests have stitching, the gear shifter how has a leatherette shift boot and works smoother. I've spent countless hours behind the wheel of both, there is no comparison.

i'm curious why and how mmarshall or anybody who prefer older gen to new gen in interior quality. i know early gen LSs had pretty impeccable interior, but i thought the new one was spectacular.

I read your other response, and yes we don't agree sometimes. But that is OK. Its the beauty of the your opinion and mine.
A Mazda 3 is not on the option table. I only want a Toyota. I want a highway car with very good MPG that will take me from A to B. I test drove the car and I absolutely love the interior, not sure why.
I understand that the chassis and engine are carry overs but that is OK and it is tried and true I guess. The new CTV might make me worry.
I don't have a problem with drum rears either.
So, the best deal I have gotten is $530 over invoice , what are your thoughts on this?
Last thing, I have to choose the model I want and I must decide whether (moon roof, alloy wheels, fog lamps, and leather wrapped wheel) is worth $1200.

i've rented it for a week and yeah, it was a snoozer. it was just plain to me. but i thought material was decent. nothing out of ordinary, but didn't stand out. i don't carefully examine cars like you, so can't really comment on things, but just by looking at the picture and a brief seat time, i thought toyota really outdone themselves with the new one.

today's car does better job hiding the bad and bringing out the good. they sure know how to make the vanilla tad more interesting

Glad you are enjoying it. Me and some other posters here can debate all day long about the interior materials. But, any way you look at it, the Corolla is a good sensible buy, and I'd wouldn't think twice about recommending one to just about anybody who wants a reliable, economical, unpretentious small sedan with a proven track record. It didn't get to be one of the best-selling cars in history for nothing.

Drove about 60 miles today. Hit 44 MPG on the freeway. Never got the car over 2500 rpm as I am going to follow the break in schedule. Sales person even mentioned the break in period as I was being introduced to the car. The new CTV has 7 simulated gear speeds, never thought it would be so effortless in a 1.8. I also never thought a dream configuration of (dual floor mats, moon roof, leather wrapped wheel, LED headlights, heated cloth seats, display audio with back up cam, fold down rear seats, auto up window, 3 blink to change lanes signals, voice recognition, auto headlights, vehicle customization and alloy wheels) would ever come around for less than $19k. All the features just came together perfectly.
I also got a pizza tonight, NO WAY was I putting it in the interior of the car.
