Looking at what people actually claim to do and use, a LOT people would fit under your "urban cowboy" description. At least from the light duty truck buyers.

Maybe that's the case in your area, where I live most trucks are either in a fleet or used by some one with a legitimate reason. Tiny streets and no where to park help contribute to a lack of pick up's.

Yes, but the damn thing is built on a FWD platform, with a transversely mounted engine. LOL.
Exactly, but they love to tell you about their 'truck'. Let's call it what it is....a CUV. SUV-like vehicle built on a car's platform. It's no more a truck than the Subaru Baja.

Though I admittedly haven't test-driven a recent version of the Ridgeline, I'll be surprised if it rides anywhere near as smooth as the newer Dodge Rams. The lighter-duty versions of the new Rams, in the suspension and noise-control department, are truly impressive......can't speak for the heavy-duty ones.

2 people I know that own them just love these things! and no they're not construction or oil workers....they are used for daily commuting and light hauling once or twice a year - perfect for them.
no clue why Honda never updated.
I'd take one these but..... I'd prefer a Tacoma or Frontier (owned both)
already plenty of threads on this matter......

If you spec a 3/4 ton Chevrolet diesel, that duramax diesel/allison automatic combo, combined with a well calibrated suspension, it will fool you into thinking you bought a damn Cadillac. They ride that nice, the diesel is that damn quiet, you don't notice it unless you roll the window down.
My uncle owns a 2006ish 3/4 ton Chevy diesel. Its 4wd, Durmax diesel/allison automatic, standard 6' bed, extended cab, bright red, has 200k miles on it. It still drives as tight as when it was new. What I love about that truck is that it isn't any larger than a 1/2 ton truck, but it can pull/haul whatever you need.
He does take care of his vehicles, that damn truck looks like its a year or two old. Despite having hauled a 5th wheel trailer behind it, which was loaded with 10,000 to 15,000 lbs of payload.
The 3/4 ton with the duramax diesel/allison automatic IS the combo to buy. Unless you are hauling more than 15,000 pounds on a regular basis, which you might as well get the 1 ton dually. Quite frankly the 1 ton single rear wheel trucks are redundant, if you don't need ultimate towing/payload capacity, buy the soft riding 3/4 ton, or upgrade to a 1 ton dually.
