Bear in mind that almost no LS500s would be $79k, just as almost no 740s are $81k. A modestly equipped 740 AWD is about $90k, a modestly equipped LS500 AWD around $87k is what we're really talking about. For me that would be a $8k increase from what i paid for my 2015, a 10% increase. Bear in mind yes it's a SWB but most LS460s are, so returning owners are likely to be SWB owners.

And remember the G90 is loaded at that spec.

Well, BMW went through a major generational change to the 7 series between 2015 and 2016.

They dumped the SWB during this generational shift and redid everything, including a new platform I think.

2015 740iL: $78,000
2016 740i: $81,000 +3.8% (all models L)

2015 750iL: $91,000
2016 750i: $94,400 +3.7% (all models L)

2017 went up a few hundred dollars, not a generational shift.

If Lexus did the same thing, it would MSRP at around $80k and yes, the 2016 LS 460 L is $78k, sorry.

Audi is about to introduce an all-new A8 as well in 2018. I doubt they jump 10% in price let alone 25%, that's crazy.

I think so. I think the G90 is nice and is worth the price, but the styling is really not for me. At $79k, that's only $18k more than my GS, for a lot more car, more engine, and much better tech. I'd seriously go there.

Pending wife's approval, of course.

None of that better tech will be on it at the base price lol. You're comparing your loaded GS to a base LS. I made that trade and my loaded GS had equipment my rather basic LS doesn't have.

That is my view. Ls460 owners had to pay for the annual price increases with or without innovation. I feel bringing the LS up to current spec should not have a price increase as they already baked those in over the years.

You paid $79k for your 15? Isn't that full price? For some reason I thought you got a better deal than that.

For some reason I was thinking you mentioned previously something about $10k off. My bad.

Understood. When I had my 2014 GS, it had decent tech compared to the LS. Also, better tech is a low bar for the current Lexus. Any tech that puts them on above the levels of the competition? Understanding that a lot of new tech are gimmicks.

That was the sticker. We have to compare MSRP to MSRP when discussing setting MSRP prices. I paid ~$10k less than that.

That's the other thing. LS460 owners from the last 4-5 years to now are used to steep discounts which won't be there for the new car for a while. Remember that $10k off is the starting point on a 7 Series.

I assumed we are talking about MSRP and not out the door prices.

I think the pedestrian avoidance and new HUD are good advancements.

Okay. It was your comment that you actually paid $79k that surprised me.

So that's just the thing, if an AWD LS optioned in a restrained way is $87k, and Let's say I can get $5k off which is a lot on a new model, if we are talking actual transaction price I'm paying $14,000 more than I paid for my 15, which is in fact a 20% increase.

These are all reasons why they need to be conservative with pricing.

Totally understand your view on pricing, Steve. All good points. I just think it'll be more. Lexus has been pretty bold on pricing lately.

Thanks. That helps me. These are items that all the competitors have (some for some time). Any new unique features that they can market?
