2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition Priced from $32,205*, Only 100 will be Made

The pre-order program for the 2015 MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition that was unveiled at the New York Auto Show last month will commence on May 20, with Mazda to open a new microsite on its U.S. page for those interested in placing their name to purchase one of the 100 special edition roadsters.

Prices for the anniversary model that is available exclusively with the retractable hardtop start at $32,205 MSRP, not including a $795 (*) destination and handling charge.

According to a Mazda statement: "The pre-order program will run through 11:25 AM PDT, May 31, 2014, or when 250 customers have registered, whichever comes first. All 100 MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition buyers will go through an exclusive pre-order process for their vehicle. Registered customers will be contacted directly by MNAO to confirm purchase intent. Upon verification, the customer's information will be forwarded to the dealership of their choosing to finalize the transaction."

If you're interested, two things you need to keep in mind is that Mazda is preparing an all-new generation MX-5 for next year, and that, at this price point, your options widen considerably and include cars like the 332hp V6 Nissan 370Z ($29,990 MSRP for the base model and $33,020 for the Sport Package edition).

The 25th Anniversary Edition of the MX-5 comes in a deep Soul Red Metallic exterior coating with gloss black details, and gets 17-inch gunmetal alloys shod in Bridgestone Potenza RE05A 205/45R17-84W tires, Almond-color leather seats and other bespoke interior trim accents and finishes. Under the hood, Mazda says it refined the 2.0-liter unit with "hand-selected pistons, connecting rods and flywheel".

Besides the styling and mechanical upgrades, all buyers of the special edition will receive a custom-crafted Tourneau watch and display winder box.

Mazda also released pricing for the rest of the 2015 MX-5 range with the soft-top version starting at $23,970 (plus handling) and the Power Retractable Hard Top (PRHT) model from $28,665 (plus handling).

Should be a great buy as it's had years to refine this generation. Still though, knowing the next one is around the corner...

Default 25th Anniversary Mazda Miata Starts at $33,000

Who doesn’t love the Mazda Miata? This small, rear-drive roadster provides a greater fun-per-dollar ratio than any Ferrari. Customers that are interested in the special 25th Anniversary edition of this car had better pay attention.

The company revealed this vehicle at the New York Auto Show a few weeks ago but starting on May 20 you’ll be able to pre-order one of these super-special Miatas, which are bowing for the 2015 model year. If you’re interested you’d better act fast as the company is only building 100 of them.

The Anniversary special is available exclusively with a retractable hardtop. Pricing kicks off at $33,000 including $795 in shipping and handling fees.

But caveat emptor, that is buyer beware because an all-new version of the Miata is scheduled to be released next year. Is it better to get a special version of the outgoing car or wait for the shiny redesigned version one to come out? Only you can answer that question.

Additionally, at 33 grand you’ve got a lot of other appealing choices as well. A base Nissan 370Z or even a stripped down Ford Mustang GT with a whole stable of horses are available on the menu. Of course neither of these cars can match the Miata’s driving finesse but they’re a hell of a lot faster.

Default 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition Sold Out in 10 Minutes in the U.S.

At the New York Auto Show last month, Mazda launched the MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition and announced that only 100 units would be available in the States. Those were obviously not enough for the big fan base that the little roadster has in the country, as the limited run was sold out in just 10 minutes.

“It is no secret the MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition is a specially-crafted ‘Thank you’ to every MX-5 fan – former, current and hopefully future,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO).

“The enthusiasm surrounding the MX-5 since its debut in 1989 has been nothing short of phenomenal, and we sincerely appreciate every single person that has experienced the absolute joy of driving in an MX-5 – whether behind the wheel or as a passenger. Since day one, this vehicle has been a true driver’s car and we hope to continue to build upon its dynamic legacy for generations to come,” he added.

250 registrants accessed the 25th anniversary pre-order microsite, only the first 100 of which were given the opportunity to pre-order an anniversary model. The MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition will arrive in dealerships beginning late summer, as will the rest of the 2015 model-year lineup.

Pricing for the limited edition model starts at $32,205 (excluding a $795 destination charge) for vehicles equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. Automatic models start at $32,655. All anniversary models are equipped with a Power-Retractable Hard Top and owners will each receive a custom-crafted Tourneau watch and display winder box with MX-5 and 25th Anniversary logos.

Default BBR’s Super 200 Naturally Aspirated Tuning Kit Upgrades the Mazda MX-5 to 201 HP

Performance tuning company BBR has released a new tuning package for Mazda MX-5 models that lifts power to 201hp without resorting to turbocharging or supercharging.

Compatible with 2005 onwards Mazda MX-5 Mk3 / 3.5 / 3.75 (NC) models, the Super 200 tuning package squeezes an additional 43hp and 19 lb-ft (26Nm) of torque from the 2.0-liter engine.

The Super 200 kit includes a high flow panel air filter, stainless steel 4 into 1 exhaust manifold, high performance intake and exhaust camshafts, 3.5-inch (89mm) diameter branded tailpipes with stainless steel clamps, ECU remap and BBR badges for front wings and bootlid.

BBR says that in-house dyno testing has revealed that the Super 200 upgrade boosts peak power to 201hp at 7,450 rpm, resulting in over 180 hp at the rear wheels. Furthermore, standard power output is exceeded at every point in the rev range, with strong gains obtained from 3,000 rpm upwards. Peak torque is also improved to 166 lb-ft (225 Nm) at 4,000 rpm, some 1,100 rpm lower than the standard car.

BBR hasn’t released performance numbers, but says the Mazda MX-5 upgraded with the Super 200 package “feels much quicker and far more willing, eager and exciting to drive than ever before.” The Super 200 package fully complies with the UK MOT emissions and runs on either 98 or 95 octane fuel.

Priced at £2,195 ($3,684) including installation but not tax/VAT, or at £1,695 ($2,845) for a DIY version, the package will be available via a select number of Mazda UK dealers.

Squeezing an additional 43hp out of a naturally aspirated 2.0L I4 is quite a feat. The only other engine that comes to mind with that kind of output is the RSX Type S, except it had 20 ft-lbs less of peak torque.

I really can't wait. I love my NB miata. The Club and AE are definitely nice though.

Here's a spotted picture of the ND. Kind of excited to see that they're bringing back the 4 lug with this model.
