2015 BMW S 1000 RR receives major updates
The 2015 S 1000 RR loses almost nine pounds and gains six horsepower, reaching a total of 449 pounds full of fuel and 199 horsepower, according to BMW.
The power boost comes from using a new intake camshaft and lighter intake valves, as well as re-engineered cylinder heads. The airbox was also modified to improve effectiveness, and the exhaust system was slimmed down to save weight.
The S1000RR gets a new, lighter chassis as well. BMW says the geometry has been modified slightly to improve handling, and Dynamic Damping Control (DDC), which was previously only available on the HP4, is now stock. The 2015 model also gains a "Pro" riding mode which includes launch control, a pit lane speed limiter, and "slick" and "user" modes.
BMW also decided to include cruise control stock for the new S 1000 RR. This may seem crazy on a sportbike, but it sounds incredible to me, after the number of freeway miles I've spent on the current model. The instrument cluster is new, as well, and depending on the options fitted, can tell you bank angle, deceleration, and give you speed warnings.
Finally, the 2015 BMW S 1000 RR gets slightly restyled bodywork and lights. Don't worry, they're still asymmetrical.
Yeah, 14.5k redline...
