Arrow IIHS tested the 2015 TLX

To my surprise the TLX performs worse than the old TL in the small overlap test.

IIHS Released Crash Test Result for 2015 Acura TLX

Detailed result can be seen here.

It gives me an impression that for the new TLX, Acura has only strengthened the B-pillar (for side crash and roof strength), otherwise the rest of the structure are kept at similar level as the previous TL.

However, this does not mean the 2015 TLX’s safety is worse than the previous TL: had the TL hit the impact barrier directly, it may has similar A-pillar deformation, like what the TLX has right now.
So it's pretty much a gamble in the real world

The TLX replaces the TSX and TL; it improves on the TSX's marginal score in the small-overlap but falls short of the TL's good small-overlap rating. Still, the TLX's collision-mitigation technology dwarfs that of the TL. Optional features include blind spot warning, lane departure warning with steering assist and two collision-warning systems. The TL had just the blind spot warning system.

Good job Acura. Top Safety Pick+ status is nothing to sneeze at.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has just named the 2015 TLX a Top Safety Pick+ after it excelled in the agency's battery of safety tests.
