For something a little off topic. I got the ol girl shined up for probably the first time since she was new. Considering how bad it was, I think it turned out amazing. Only downside, I'll have to wax it every 2 weeks to keep it looking like this. Once it gets bad again, there's no restoring again.
Get a 22R or 22RE. The E is fuel injected. Mine has a carburetor. Not a huge deal, but I would prefer FI. I've heard the V6 is pretty slow so better to go with the 4 cyl. And probably better to get a 5 speed, this thing is slow enough as it is. There was apparently an issue with rust on some beds. Not all are affected. Mine is unfortunately. Other than that they are pretty stout trucks. I bought it from my uncle who only drove it on the weekends during hunting season. The rear diff was leaking. Found out there's a nipple at the top to allow gases out. It was plugged with dirt, forcing the fluid out other places. Replaced that nipple as well as drained the fluid. It was sludge! Didn't seem to affect it one bit. It's also very easy to work on. I'm not an expert on these trucks but they are nice and simple!
Nice! I had a '97 4Runner for about a year before it started having head gasket issues. Had it fixed once, and then it started having problems again and was told it's probably need a new engine, so I just got rid of it.

Good advice on the engine. Toyota's V6 they used from about 1987 to 1994 was a 3.0 SOCH V6, I forgot the model designation. Slow, thirsty, 150hp, and it liked to blow headgaskets and self destruct.
The 1995 and newer trucks(they started calling them the Tacoma in 1995), definetly get the V6, its a completely different 3.4 DOCH unit with 190hp, good torque, and is impossible to kill. Its also the only way I'd get an automatic in a Tacoma, they zap too much power with any of the 4 cylinder engines.
I sold a 1994 Landcruiser and bought my GS. I love the Lexus, but am looking for another Landcruiser. Fuel economy aside, it has to be one of the greatest vehicles ever created.
As for the pickup, I am sure that all of you have seen these...
Thanks but far from it. Just had it buffed and waxed is all. But it does look better than most old Toyota trucks I see out there. I try my best to take care of my vehicles. It's cheaper to maintain than buy a new one. I think my next thing will be to do a FI conversion and SR5 instrument cluster to add a tach.
