Its not meaningless, there is a correlation between lease rates and msrp

 

I know people tend to forget tax laws outside their own state, but leases in Texas are often more expensive than financing because the lessor must pay tax on sale price and passes that along to lessee, and residuals & rates don't change to offset it, so, MSRP does matter.

 

Also, confusing names? V vs. V-sport. Both are sport models. The average person or newcomer isn't going to be able to discern the two at first blush. Again, when you are struggling to climb up and out of a rut, you do not take chances with confusing names and titles.

 

You see this same thing when people in other forums talk about the F-Sport and F with Lexus......

Some bring it up, but I don't see it as an issue.

Well to go with Bits point, look at the lease quotes on a RC FSport vs a GS FSport.... The RC price is lower and the lease is much more $$$, at least in Detroit. So to a certain point, the list price doesn't matter,

 

I would have like to seen the 640hp be put down to AWD......

 

This car is very god and attractive, my only problem with it is the boring rear and slow CUE system.

 

there really isn't. depends on lease term, trade-in value, er, residual.

if a 100K car only lost $5K a year, a 2 year lease is only financing $10K + fees/markup which is peanuts compared to buying a $100K car.

 

No way, JP....with this much horsepower, I'd much rather have burnouts than better 0-60 times, or better speed out of the hole.

I wish I could afford a CTS-V, but I can squeeze into an ATS-V (coupe). I hope it's almost as much fun as the CTS-V. And glad the ATS-V is rear wheel drive too.

its because they jacked up the price so much. The price is what made it attractive in the first place, not anymore. ATS-V now costs as much as the previous CTS-V

I have to agree with J.P.

Even minus the extra weight /drag of an AWD system, RWD burnouts often increase 0-60 times...the rear tires, instead of actually propelling the car forward, simply spin and go up in smoke.....although a good traction control system can minimize the amount of spin. Burnouts are useful for little else than showing off...and for attracting the attention of cops.

 

CTS improved yes, but it didnt improve that much to warrant such a big price increase in an attempt to move upmarket. Now you have an american car thats not that far away from a german car in pricing. Now also they alienated current cadillac customers by jacking the price up. Then they wonder why they had 200 days of supply on the lots.

 

I don't think it's a matter of what the car is actually worth.. it's marketing and perception. You can't bump a car 20k and expect people to buy-in. They should have dropped the CTS nameplate into entry level (3/C/A4/IS) competitor instead of the ATS, and then slot the ATS nameplate above it (5/E/A6/GS). That way CTS remains same price or cheaper, and they can market a new class of car with no pricing precedence.
