Toyota to go rally racing w/ a Rav4
The Toyota RAV4 is going rally racing.
The Toyota RAV4 rally car was revealed at the Monster Energy Supercross Championship finale this weekend in Las Vegas and announced that Ryan Millen will pilot it at various rally races including some of the 2015 Rally America 2WD-Open Class season. Millen, who won the 2014 Baja 1000 in a Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, is the son of off-road legend Rod Millen and has been involved in Toyota Racing since childhood. While seeing a Toyota RAV4 compete in any form of motorsport is rare, this specific rally version is even more unique since is a unibody vehicle competing with Rally America’s modified street cars.
Starting with a 2015 Toyota RAV4 LE, the company has modified it by dumping over 500 lbs of weight, adding a roll cage, TEIN suspension and BFGoodrich all-terrain DOT tires. The RAV4 will retain its stock 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 176 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque as well as its stock transmission.
The tentative event schedule includes: Idaho Rally (June 13-14), Mendocino Rally (July 18-19), Rally Utah (August 7-8), Gorman Ridge Rally (August 22), Prescott Rally (October 2-3) and Mt Hood Rally (October 17).
