Well according to the article from CL hyperlinked a few posts ago (quoted below) there will be " a touch-sensitive input device along with a mouse". Can't make that out from the interior pic though.
only possibility would be dual input - both mouse and screen... lets hope... they might have moved screen so close for that reason, but i doubt it.

That very well could be a touchscreen since its not flushed all the way back like in GS or LS. But my god I cant wait for stuck-on display trend to go away. I think GS and LS really got it right when it comes to non-touch display integration.

I think the way the GS and LS screens are implemented raises the height of the entire instrument panel too much, and I prefer the separate tablet-type screens. Ideally you could motor them away/out of sight when not being used or needed.

same here, the whole add on thing is what makes me hesitant on the new lx. better integration could have been done, the LS and GS got it done very well, allow the screen to be higher up
Gosh I hope at a minimum they will use the 8spd auto and at least add DI or Atkinson cycle to the engine. Why a Tacoma gets DI and Atkinson cycle and not the LC or LX is beyond me.

I actually quite like the look of the way its done on the LX, like the other BMWs. The way Mercedes does it is the worst where it is just stuck in mid air. At least this way it is resting on the dash. If done right with a really thin LCD screen, it looks good
yes, mb is even worse. i am not a fan of how it's done in the 3/4 series either. i guess i just prefer it to be more integrated and have a "roof" above it
IMHO, LX looks better than those above... they make dash too big as pbm17 said. It also enables it being closer to the driver.
I completely disagree. Nothing about the screen sitting up above the dashboard is attractive IMHO. It looks awkward, tacked on. Why do I need the screen to be closer to me when its controlled by a controller on the console?
I agree the RX's screen is oddly placed, though it seems benchmarked against a certain German
The integration of Remote Touch on the RX looks better than the LX implementation, which has a 'tacked-on' feel. Part of the problem though is the LX simply has more hardware. A sea of dials and buttons swimming around the shifter and RT
BMW's layout isn't awkward though, It has to do with the way the screen just pops out of the dash so far back from the dash, in the X5 is closer, and the dash flows behind it in a way that makes it look like it was designed to be there in the dash. From that angle you can't see the difference, but if you compare this angle to the picture I posted you can:
