For anyone who might be interested. Autoblog podcast spoke with CR and had a guest on to address their ridiculous hyperbole claims. Less than 10,000 cars of all of the CR survey showed oil burning use but CR could not verify how much oil was being used for those who reported oil use, CR had no idea that BMWs in the survey have no dipstick and actually use an oil life monitor to measure oil consumption, 1.5 M cars is claimed but CR based this on their 2% sample of 500k in their study. CR finally admitted that in the owners manual the car burns oil but they fail to admit that car CAN burn oil and not burn enough to warrant an issue, CR had no engineers to vertify their claims.
Autoblog didn't mucb comment, as it was pretty obvious that CR is like usual , full of nonsense and just trying to grab some headlines.

I frequently cringe when reading/hearing what's asserted as Normal.
Death, taxes, pain, work, cancer, and many other things are "normal" - but not necessarily "good", "desirable", or even "acceptable".
I'd love to see more progress towards "optimal" than "normal".
