Default thieves stealing cars by amplifying signal of wireles key fobs - how to prevent?

There have been reports that thieves are using amplifiers to trick late model cars that your wireless key fob is nearby
to open the doors, start the engine and drive away.
Concerned this is trick is going to get more common. Shocked the automakers didn't see this coming.
While they recommend storing your wireless key fob in the freezer when home, what do you do when you're at a restaurant?

Refer to this thread in the NX forum. While this is possible when both the car, the key fob and the nefarious parties are in range and have the appropriate equipment the ultimate source of the story is dubious at best since they "amplified the threat" to promote their own product in development.

Oh and one more thing. While most of the cars will let you open the doors there is a setting to restrict the ability to start the car if the key fob is not within the cabin.

Usually they do it when you lock the car, so don't use the fob to lock the car, ise the lock/unlock from the side of the door to lock.

lol. that bag is guaranteed to make the phone drain its battery asap too unless on airplane mode with wifi off. in which case, the bag likely isn't necessary.

Don't know about that. But for the purposes of the OP, it would work.

This is similar to a problem that Honeywell security systems has encountered. They have a particular security system that has been hacked with key fob access. My understanding is that there is an app used to disarm the security system with instructions.

Honeywell did find a fix for this, but older systems are vulnerable.

All I known is we have some smart people out there. How do you even think of this? Guess they are too bored?

I guess no one read the post from several months ago. A member wrapped their key fob in aluminum foil and it completely blocked the signal to their car.

A two-way fob that lets you know the engine's been started and a 1911 should do it.
