Default Self healing tires..*cough* from Grrmany

Pretty cool if you ask me. It's high time something like this came along. If any of you have had run flats you know how hard they can be. Making a tire such as this and as comfortable as a regular tire would be a hit.
Anyway, chime in with your thoughts. Any negatives?

Can a moderator fix the spelling? Self instead of del? Thanks.

Uniroyal has been selling tires since the 1970's that I believe are sold with an option called nail guard . You can drill holes in them and they still hold air. Self healing isn't going to get you far when the tire is flat first. I think the idea like Uniroyals is to prevent the flat in the first place.

kind of a waste of time, cars of the future will have airless tires. Michelin already has the tweel and its only a matter of time before its ready for our roads.

I don't know about waste of time. I can potentially think of other uses for self healing rubber. Something that can keep it's form and heal once hit, hmm what can that be applied towards?

Yup. Change the paradigm. Not solve the issue.

I still remember when the goal of Westinghouse was to make the best iron ever to remove wrinkles from clothes. It was flipped on it's head by the concept of wrinkle free clothing.

maybe, however tires are a very unique in the chemical composition. will this technology be adaptable to other rubbers feasibly?

Excellent example. As this technology progresses I can see self healing "armor". Incorporated inside the sheet metal for military and while not being 100% proof against ballistics shrapnel flying into the metal and this rubber can be taken out and leave no holes to be safely operated again. Would be awesome in a Warthog if advanced enough. Shoot it & it just keeps coming back healed via its engine heat to speed up the process.: So many uses.

Would that be able to hold up at high speeds? Seems pretty flexy.
