Despite Lost Sales, Infiniti Says Name Change Right Move
#16
nah, it wasn't the naming. That's just a coincidence.
Sales dropped because infiniti has a dated and inferior line up, just when competitors were bringing out better and better products.
They have a dated coupe, no flagship, no prestige, still selling the old g37, and the m35 styling repels shoppers.
They've got a sh** hand.
I bet lots of infiniti shoppers left for mercedes.
You could call the mercedes C-class the BBQ350c and it would still sell like hotcakes.
Call the 3-series the YUP3i, and it would sell as well.

Think about it.

OK..........for several of you here who are (seemingly) lost in Infiniti's alphabet naming-soup, here's the rundown for its (current) American-market products: If you need to, copy/paste it and save it somewhere:
Q50, Q50 Hybrid........Former mid-size 4-door G37 sedan.
Q70, Q70L (long-wheelbase), Q70 Hybrid.............Former M-series flagship sedans.
Q60 Coupe, Q60 Convertible, Q60 IPL convertible.............Former G37 2-door coupe, convertibles.
QX50........Former EX35 small crossover SUV.
QX60.......Former mid-size JX35 crossover SUV. (same platform as Nissan's Pathfinder)
QX80........Former full-size QX56 SUV.
Q50, Q50 Hybrid........Former mid-size 4-door G37 sedan.

As of Sept 2015, the Infiniti QX80 sold 10K vehicles in the US while Lexus LX570 sold only 2k. The QX80's sales have increased by 25% compared to last year. I'm not sure I agree with the premise of this thread that Infiniti has lost sales. With Audi's current woes with respect to diesel gate, I suspect Infiniti and Acura will gain market share in the US at the expense of Audi in the next couple of years.

Based on a whole, not sales of one model.

What's funny, IMO, is that the former (now discontinued) Q45 (with a lower number) was a big full-sized RWD flagship sedan with a V8...and now the Q50 (with a higher numerical designation) is now their entry-level sedan in the American market LOL.

From Sept. 2014 to Sept. 2015, the whole Infiniti brand increased sales by 12.6%, from 84K to 95K vehicles sold.

The Q60 is the former G37 coupe which competes with the likes of the RC, 4 Series, A5...
The Eau Rogue never came to fruition...too bad...too sad...

I have been an Infiniti owner for 11 years. I bought my G35 coupe in 2004 and it was a wonderful experience the whole time I had it. I was completely loyal to the Infiniti brand because it was catering to the sport oriented driver that wanted good reliability and value. Unfortunately, Infiniti has strayed far from that core experience. I lamented the Q50 as it became softer and more luxury oriented. It lost the nice handling and the cars also became way more expensive. Ironically, Lexus has now surpassed Infiniti in terms of sport. That was the day Infiniti lost me as a customer and I went to Lexus. It's not the naming convention. It is the products now that are killing sales

I admit it's shame that the lives of some employees were and are disrupted from those moves, but those moves were done for a reason. California has simply become prohibitively expensive and over-regulated as a place for some companies to do business.....and the state is now paying the price.

They are plodding along at an ok pace.
Let's face it folks, Infiniti is the only option for us Japanese only, RWD based luxury brand consumers.
The smaller SUV should boost sales in a manner similar to but not as large as the NX has for Lexus.
The new coupe, with a Q60 designation will be a nice car to own and should also improve their sales numbers.
I have had my Q50S Hybrid for over 2 years and it has been a perfect daily driver.
I would rather have a Lexus but they refuse to build something I want (either a high power Hybrid AWD sedan or a really good AWD hard top convertible).

AWD convertibles, while they do exist here and there (Audi, I believe, does a couple of them), are not something that the auto industry, as a whole tends, to put much time and effort into. I don't necessarily agree with it, but the general reasoning behind it, from most auto marketers, is that those who would want AWD do a lot of driving in bad weather and/or conditions that aren't really conducive to top-down driving.
