Yup, the C class has moved up in size, price, power, and refinement to where its no longer the "cheap class" IMO. Its finally a proper Benz, I don't feel like you are settling for less just to get a Benz badge like previous C-Classes.
Like you said, the E class will move up in price a bit since the C is a bigger/much nicer car than it used to be.

Maybe a few thousand dollars. Honestly the starting MSRP of the 2016 models is $52,650, which is more than I thought. I thought they started at $49,000 or so.
Also interesting is that you can't get a V8 unless you buy the $100,000 AMG model for the 2016 MY The upcharge engine is a 3.0 V6 turbo with 329hp. Totally lame considering last year you could get a 402hp twin turbo V8.

What is odd is that the S class comes standard with a V8 in the US and most markets, it does offer a V6 diesel/V6 hybrid in some markets but the standard engine is a V8 where most of its competitors like the BMW 7 series now offer 6 cylinders standard now for their flagships while also offering a non M V8 option for the 5 series. Even if there is a low take rate for the V8 in the E class, they never should have yanked the V8 option from the customers who wanted it, there is a low take rate for a CL/S class coupe too but they still build and offer it. If they wanted a higher take rate on V8's then lower then price of them, the reason people were not taking as many V8's in the E class was the premium was way too high on them and more modern 300hp 6 cylinders are powerful enough now compared to when 6 cylinders were only putting out 200-240hp in that class.

I definitely like the interior, and like that the nav display is mounted integrally with the dash, rather than placed on top a la C Class.
I'm uninspired by the exterior, though. It looks just like a larger C Class, which isn't my cup of tea.
