Default 2017 Mercedes E Class

http://www.autonews.com/article/2015...class-flagship

so it'll look something like this i guess, not bad but not sure if i love it either... the S, E, and C classes now officially all look too alike

the new E63 is also supposedly getting the new 4.0 Biturbo with its "turbos inside the V" design. obviously boost levels will go up to compensate for 1.5 liters less displacement but no matter what results say on paper, there really is no replacement for displacement

'Murica!!!

as little turbo lag as there will be, and i'm sure there won't be much... the instantaneous grunt isn't there and i'm almost positive it'll be less than the current E63, which is already less than the W211 AMGs. the current 722.9 7g tronic will also be replaced with a more trendy DCT, in this case the 9g tronic, so i'm sure 0-60 and 1/4 mile times will be the same, probably even a bit better

even though it's technically worse in just about every way, i wanna see more superchargers on things. the E55 was awesome because of this, it felt like it just had a huge engine, while the current outgoing E63 feels like it has a decent sized turbocharged engine. you really don't see too much power until like 2200 rpm, which is pretty low, but until then it just feels somewhat ordinary and not scary at all. then it gets scarier, and stays scarier for quite awhile lol

I love the supercharged V6 in my S5. It provides tons of torque at just about any RPM. I was bummed to hear the '17 S5 will come with a turbocharged six. As for the new E Class, it looks really conservative and boring.

Almost all the spy shots of the E are in its tamest trim level, that is the non amg line in Europen and Sport package in the USA. You'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes when the car is equipped with the sport bumpers, side skirts, the sport grill, and 19" wheels. But I agree, it is even more tame than the current E class. It would probably be a tech tour de force, in other words like the new 7 series

So now all three of their sedans look identical. What a wasted opportunity. I'm sorry, but we are not better for this. We lose out on more choices and the chance to own something not everyone else has seen a million times already.

Ah...

1) We already have a thread for this: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/car...wn-body-2.html
2) Funny how no one complained about all three of the sedans looked alike in the 90's
3) The 4.0T has been lauded in the AMG GT and C63
4)The power does indeed come in earlier and more linearly vs. the 5.5L V8
5) It will certainly be quicker
6) The E63 will be getting the AMG Speedshift MCT, not DCT. This is essentially the 9G-tronic with the torque converter removed and wet startup clutch inserted. So basically it's the 7-speed AMG Speedshift MCT with better programming and 2 more gears.

oh, whoops... guess i shoulda searched

i still wonder about tuning potential though, the current model makes like over 720hp and 830tq with just a tune and downpipes. and with the turbo upgrade it's way more even than that. it's too early to say anything though, so far it seems like a great engine

Pleasing but not very distinctive. Too bad they couldn't do quad headlights again and really give it some character. Excited to see the AMG.

Personally I think the days of power at those levels with just a tune/downpipe are gone unfortunately. From what I understand the 4.0t V8 is far more high strung than the 5.5l V8 but there's still some room to go.

Indeed, the 4.0TT is 2 cla45 motors together at the crank. The heads, the pistons, the connecting rods even the turbo's are the same.

The CLA is cranked up to 28lbs of boost and makes 355-380hp based on the generation.

The m177 makes around 500 crank at like 18-20 lbs. MB engineers say that this motor is good to upwards of 700-800 safe hp on stock components. the transmission is the weakest link in my c63 s

renntech is already pushing big ###

Mercedes has always made the C, E and S look pretty similar...

well yeah there's always been a resemblance, gotta keep up the brand recognition but i've legitimately confused a new C and an S class. especially when they first came out, and now with this new E seems like it'll be even harder.

i'll always have a soft spot for the W211 E55
