Default Not so Luxury

So I see there's a lot of people that think Lexus is not a luxury brand. People think BMW and Mercedes are way better cars. Take this from a guy that traded in his Mercedes E350, Lexus is a luxury brand. The woodgrain in my Mercedes was made from plastic and started to peel in the summer heat. So what are your thoughts, is Lexus a luxury brand?

In a word, yes, but that's where more arguments come in as to what are considered Tier 1 and Tier 2 luxury-brands.

Lexus is a luxury brand for sure, some of the models compare well with Lincoln, Infiniti, Cadillac etc while the higher end models compare very well with MB, Audi, BMW etc.

I've owned BMW's and I believe Lexus falls into the same class as BMW, Audi, & MB but much more reliable. Lexus is a luxury car.

So you're saying a lot of people believe that our Lexus' fall into the same category as an Acura? I don't think Acura is a luxury car but some do.

Acura is supposed to be Honda's luxury brand and is comparable to Lexus, MB and the likes but they're built and designed closer to the Honda branded vehicles than an entirely different design. U don't find Lexus interior design look-a-like in any Toyota branded vehicles. TLX interior looks a lot like the Accord interior but ES interior does not look like a Camry interior.

And it also depends on what ur comparing to. An S Class MB can't be compared to an ES and most folks that says Lexus is an overpriced Toyota has never been in one and can never afford one. They are simply clueless and hateful.

I've gotten the "why did you buy a Lexus? It's an overpriced Toyota." so many times. Ive also gotten Lexus isn't luxury, BMW, Audi and MB are. You should have bought one of those. I would just respond with, it's my money and I can buy whatever I want. I personally don't consider Acura a luxury brand even though it is suppose to be for Honda. I also don't consider Infiniti a luxury brand. Some may disagree and that's okay. I do however consider Lexus a luxury brand with awesome reliability. That's why I have two Lexus vehicles in the family and plan to get another soon.

My friends who thought the Germans are more superior changed their view when they sat in mine. They've never thought a Lexus would be this good. Then I'm like

The OP's question is not even worthy of an answer or response in my opinion.

Shouldn't this topic be in the "Car Chat" subforum since it isn't specifically about the 4GS?

As most stated, I think luxury brands fall into various categories.

High tier luxury:
Rolls Royce, Bentley, Maserati, Aston Martin. Perhaps the last two are the sporty side then true luxury brands.

Middle tier luxury:
Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, possibly Porsche (even though they are more on the sporty side), Tesla

Lower tier luxury:
Volvo, Jaguar, Cadillac, Lincoln, Infiniti, Acrua

Your question is more about "perception" of the brand, so this is highly subjective and obviously there are models from each maker that cross over categories.

Feel free to quote me and edit my list guys. I may be forgetting some or you may not agree with me, which is fine!

All the key luxury marques are offering lower end cars to build volume/introduce new blood to the brand.

The short lived HS and the CT are not very lux oriented but everything else is aligned with some luxury category.

BMW 1 series ain't exactly a luxury car either

Superb list.
I'd add Hyundai's new Genesis luxury division to the lower luxury lists too...
