Why would an F Sport variant bring a "cheap" feel to the car?

I think cheap may be too strong of a word, but an F sport, or lite version, on such a grand car would definitely dilute the cachet of the vehicle. With such halo cars, you either go big with a full F variant, or you dont. In the same way that MB only has their lite 43 amg vehicles on the C, and the E, and not the S.

I don't know that I really buy into that line of thinking. I'm a consumer in this range of vehicles, and it would never have occurred to me to think that my LS having an F Sport variant diminished its cachet...

i don't think f sport dilutes the individual models, but i think it dilutes the f brand. the same goes for m and amg. if anything it helps boost regular buyers coz' now they don't have to pay as much money to "own" the f, m, and amg badges, but for those who used to be in the "exclusive" club, that's a blow

If the F-Sport actually adds some more 'sport' to the LC, then it should get a version of that. I would think so to hold people over until a real LC F comes around.

Its not supposed to be a high volume seller.
And there is a market for large coupes, its just a niche market. If there weren't a market nobody would make them.

The Challenger seems to sell quite well for a so-called niche market. It would probably be a stretch to call it "large", but it is certainly larger in physical size than the Mustang or Camaro....which is not surprising, considering that it comes from a slightly shortened version of the Charger/300 platform.

Its not a vanity project, its a halo car. Its a model for people to aspire to, and to show the direction that the brand is headed. In a luxury car brand "vanity" is a consideration.
As a vehicle enthusiast why would we deride a company for building a low volume "vanity project"? Don't we want the brand to build great cars even if they won't sell a ton of them because we get the benefit of being able to enjoy those great cars?
