It's looking like the Taurus will be discontinued.

Maybe not. The next Taurus will be built on a stretched version of the Fusion platform. It should bring some of the goodness of the Fusion ride/handling package with more interior room. Engine choices include the NA 3.5 V-6, the 2.3 EcoBoost 4, and the 2.7 EcoBoost V-6. The SHO may be gone, but the 2.7 should have similar performance.

That isn't coming to the US.

I wouldn't be surprised. Outside of police-spec versions (and maybe some rentals) it doesn't seem to have much of a market here.

I checked with my Ford source (retired VP) and he is confident that the Taurus will continue in the US. As Mike Marshall mentioned, it is big with police and that is a profitable segment. Fleet sales are also pretty big for Taurus. It is also simple to do technically since this is the chassis for the new Continental. We'll know for sure in a few months.

True, but a lot of police officers and State Troopers still miss their Crown Vics. The Tauruses, while adequate, just aren't the same cars.

I don't know if the cops themselves missed the cars, I hear a lot of them like the bigger SUV's like the Tahoe and Explorer now days. More space and they're faster.

I know fleet maintence misses the Crown Vic, those things were pretty much bomb proof and very easy to work on. Very easy to fix if you wrecked them as well.
