That's crazy. Assuming the car weighs 1300 KG and decelerated at 788 Meters per second squared (based on the deceleration time of 68 milliseconds), that's 230,294 pound-feet of force or 1,024,400 Newtons.

If you imagine one Newton is the force needed to accelerate a mass of one kilogram one meter per second per second, or it can push 2.2 pounds to a speed of one meter per second every second, in this case, that force could accelerate 2.25 million pounds to a speed of one meter per second every second, that's a brick ton of force!

Yep. Some kids (or other immature or reckless drivers) don't think about that when they are out on the street having their "fun" or drag-racing. In high school, during the Great Age of American Muscle Cars in the 1960s, while I wasn't necessarily Grandpa or Grandma myself behind the wheel, I was always fearful and respectful of speed, alcohol, and careless driving....I saw a number of my classmates get hurt or killed while pushing the envelope.

That's eerily similar to the crash that killed Dale Earnhart, drove straight into a concrete wall. Only he was going a lot faster.

Not even sure what you have to hit on the road to have the same type of impact? A parked truck? But even the truck would probably move and absorb some of the force.

From what I remember, Earnhart's car went into the wall at an angle, wrenching his neck sideways and breaking it. He also refused to follow his Crew Chief's advice and wear a special helmet-brace system because he claimed it was too uncomfortable. Now, drivers can't refuse any more...NASCAR has mandated them. You either wear them or you don't race.
