That's probably because of the SRX's classic droop-rear end. That type of styling often (though not always) compromises interior space-efficiency.

The XT5, though not a shoebox by any means, does not seem to droop quite as much in the rear.

Seeing these pictures reminded me that the rear visibility in the XT5 wasn't too good. Not terrible but worse than I am used to.

I finally had a chance to sit in the new XT5 today.

Very impressive interior. Excellent materials. The swede headliner and A-B-Pillars remind me of the 2003-2007 LX570 materials. Best steering wheel in the class. Excellent seats (very comfy). Overall a very elegant interior.

Where the interior falls short is the second row leg room and rear cargo space. I think the new XT5 is a better purchase than the new RX350. Looks much better on the outside too.

I agree with your comments except for the rear leg room. Are you aware the rear seat slides back and forth? The XT5 has 1.5" more leg room than the 4RX.

Was not aware that it went back. Will have to look the next time.

When I was in looking at and test driving the XT5 the rep showed me the sliding rear seats. The seats had a good amount of travel for rear seats.

I would (assume) that the rear seat-backs also recline. That is becoming more and more common now in SUVs. Even the base model 2016 RAV-4 (which IMO had some of the cheapest materials in it that I've seen in a recent SUV) has that feature, to its credit.

Suede/soft-fabric headliners are found in many new vehicles nowadays, but the actual sun-visors , even in some not-so-cheap vehicles, are hard-plastic. I haven't had the benefit (yet) of sitting inside the XT5 like you have, but I'd assume that the sun visors have a covering that matches the suede on the ceiling.....correct?

Where the interior falls short is the second row leg room and rear cargo space.
Given that the XT5 is replacing the SRX (which didn't have great cargo space for is size), and that the XT5's styling itself is only slightly more boxy in the rear, a (relative) lack of cargo space probably isn't too surprising,

I think the new XT5 is a better purchase than the new RX350. Looks much better on the outside too.
I've seen some comments, both on and off CL, from potential buyers, who are otherwise interested in a new RX, and simply won't purchase or lease one because of the looks. Of course, the RX has such a huge number of dedicated buyers that those (relative) few that find new styling a deal-breaker probably won't make much difference.

Yes, the seatbacks in the XT5 recline.
