Hardware and some of the safety features are standard, but auto park, adaptive cruise, lane change etc will be an upcharge.

Lack of a grille kills it for me.

That entire front fascia below the headlights and the front hood is one big piece of plastic, as are all front bumper covers these days.

The pre-orders don't mean much IMO. Sure, 198k is impressive on the surface, but it's not like all of them will convert into actual sales. Some of the people I know that did the pre-order only did it because it was only $1k to reserve it AND they figure they have two years or so to really decide if they want the car. If they had 198k at $5k a pop then I'd been a little more optimistic about it but $1k is like skipping a couple nice dinners..

It doesn't need a grille because there's nothing up front, not even radiators. The Model S has a separate trim piece for a grille but the 3 does away with that. It's bold styling and I like it.

That is a good start for a vehicle that has not yet been released. This Tesla 3 should be a massive hit, the public see it as forward thinking and if the big automakers are not careful, we may see a Apple cult like following of Tesla products.
In the flagship segment, the Tesla is the only vehicle that grew substantially in a segment that was mostly flat for the A8/7 series and S-Class models.
I can't see anyone buying a Toyota Mirai when the Tesla 3 looks so much better in every specification aspect.

LG Display to supply car displays for Tesla Model 3 - source
LG Display will supply information displays for Tesla Motors' new Model 3 sedans, a person with direct knowledge of the matter said, grabbing a key contract for centre consoles from another supplier.
Tesla said on Thursday over 130,000 people had ordered the electric car in a couple of hours although it is more than a year away from production. With a $35,000 starting price - less than half Tesla's Model X - the vehicle is critical to the Silicon Valley automaker's growth plans.
The order is a feather in LG Display's cap as it seeks to expand further into auto electronics which offer higher margins and more stable earnings prospects than consumer products.
The Model 3 prototype features a huge, tablet-like information screen on the center console, reflecting the trend towards bigger in-car displays that offer more features.
"LG Display is a sole supplier for the 15-plus inch centre display of Model 3," said the source, declining to be identified as he was not authorised to speak on the matter.
Another company currently provides centre information displays for Tesla's Model S and Model X, he added.
An LG Display spokeswoman declined to comment. A Tesla spokeswoman did not have immediate comment. ($1 = 1,150.1100 won)
