Which makes it a better buy that a hybrid, and has impressive performance and no need to ever visit a gas station.

Even if half the people bail it's still a major win for Tesla. I just don't understand what is taking so long for the 3 to come out, waiting for the Gigafactory to be in volume production?

Lots of great things about the Model 3. A potential bad one is because of the entry point, all these jacks will think they're invincible especially if equipped with an Insane/Ludicrous mode.

Im more worried that all of them will have auto pilot standard.

I have my deposit in. Can't wait to get my allocation # and model configuration request when the car goes into production. This is one buyer that will have this car on his drive way. I am anticipating OTD around $50K with options. Which will be a steal for what you get at that price...

all the millennial will be texting and putting on their make up with ease now, relying solely on autopilot. It would make sense for Tesla to do some kind of car to car communication with one another since there will be conceivably so many teslas on the road

I noted in an earlier post, the semi autonomous driving elements of auto pilot will be an up charge. It is NOT standard. The hardware and some of the safety capabilities is standard, but the other parts will be options, just like on the S and X.

If they had 198k at $5k a pop then I'd been a little more optimistic about it but $1k is like skipping a couple nice dinners..
Not to mention the deposit is refundable...

Really? It took most car makers the whole year to sell this many cars. Reservations are already up to 275,000. Even 10% of them cancelled there are a ton more waiting in line. Most people are going to have to wait 3-4 years.

Yup, they don't have a reliable supplier that can produce in the quantities they need so hopefully there are no surprises getting that thing up. Also good to remember that they only have a single factory that produces cars so it's not like they have a whole lot of space to open up a second line. Have to give the X some production time too

Model 3 is a concept right now - that presented vehicle did not have finished interior for instance.

So I dont think they are waiting for factory, if the car itself is not ready... probably delays to Model X influenced delays on Model 3.

But in reality, 2 years is not bad at all. I would prefer them to do it properly and have less issues with this one then to rush the production.

I cant wait to see the finalized vehicle, options, prices, etc, etc.

Yes, really. Are they even going to have enough cash to build 300k+ cars? The other thing is, how many of those 300k pre-orders can ACTUALLY afford and/or get financing for a car that will surely option out to $40k+? Add in the fact that the tax credit will dry up before 1/2 the orders are filled and people will get impatient and I can see a scenario where way more than 10% bail. My high school aged cousin's friend pre-ordered one because he has a debit/credit card and figured he'll have some type of job in 2+ years - good luck, kid!

I'm not hating on Tesla, I just feel that there are going to be a LOT of disappointed stakeholders 2+ years from now...
