Default Lexus Classics - LS400 and SC400

Would love to have one of these in my garage. How much are you willing to pay for the LS400 or SC400 in such condition?

I agree that they are both classics and beautiful cars, but since I'm a pragmatic guy I'd rather have something newer with more up-to-date technology both inside the car and under the hood. I actually did buy a used '99 SC300 in 2002 because I had always admired the looks. I quickly found that having only a Cassette and CD player in a daily driver didn't work for me.

If I had the money to buy one of these and just drive it occasionally, that would be another story. This is Lexus at its best.

P.S. My dad actually owned a '91 LS400 in a shade of blue that looked exactly like that. It was our family's first foray into the Lexus brand.

Yes, the early 90's were certainly the golden years for Toyota.

Maybe I should just get a 93 LS400 (I think they looked the best out of the LS400's) in almost show room condition (which I can still find in Japan), and sell it to a local Toyota/Lexus dealership in 5 years time!

I don't think many of today's cars will become classics, simply because by that time, their electronics would stop working even if the mechanical stuff survives.

So what market did they put the telephone antenna in the trunk lid? And the side reflectors on the front fenders. Actually they do nothing for the car.

Nice pictures.

I think in this day and age there isn't as much separation in quality/features between cheap cars and expensive cars.

Unless you are getting something that costs $100k+, I don't see too much of a difference in a typical base-medium priced Lexus/BMW/Audi compared to a loaded Honda/Toyota that costs half as much. Yes tehre are subtle differences but not too big of a gap. Back in the day, you knew damn well that a Lexus was a clear difference from a loaded Camry or Corolla. This day and age a Corolla has paddle shifters, NAV, and all the other bells and whistles.

I'll take that red MR2 in the background. One of my favorite Toyotas.

Might as well add the 2000 GT into the collection! Can't find a mint pic of that MR2 you're after

Wow, that is an amazingly clean engine bay. Well done. Did you have to re-cap the ECU like most of the original LS 400's ?

Wheeerrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?

Lol, but in all honesty I think the only ones that are holding value are highly modified ones that the owner put 20k into it and thinks that makes it worth 20k. I picked up a clean 2000 SC300 a few months ago for $2800, maybe in areas where not many SC's are they are just marked up. In CA they go for as low as $500 all the way up to 20k, averaging around 3-4 thousand dollars.

Man, those are gorgeous cars... And they sure don't make 'em like they used to. The door panel detailing on the SC looks so much nicer than the hard plastic junk we get nowadays.

How about the cars in Japan? I thought it's hard and expensive to keep old cars on the road there.
