Infiniti M56 Opinions
I'm on a never ending hunt for a new (used) car. It's been nearly a year since I started my search and still nothing. I am a bit picky - 1 or 2 owners is a must and all service records must be verifiable. I also will not settle for a car that has had any paintwork, even just a bumper respray. I have my heart set on an 06+ GS430/460 with under 75k miles, but am having no luck finding one. I found an 06 GS430 a few weeks back with 44k on the clock, only to be beat to the dealer by 15 minutes by someone else. I was so disappointed. Anyways, I've been considering the 08+ M45/56, as they seem a bit more readily available with lower miles, but am still a bit hesitant. I have been able to find a lot of information on the M45, but not so much about the M56 in terms of reliability and owner satisfaction. Does anyone have any input? I'm looking at a 2011 M56 this weekend and I do like the option that I can get the Infiniti elite protection plan on the car, whereas the Lexus I would be out of luck with a factory warranty unless I found a certified 2011 GS460, which is damn near impossible. Any input on the M56 is appreciated. I did a search of the forums and found only one comment about electrical glitches, but no further information.

I wish I could give you input on the M56. All I can say is that I owned an '06 M45 for a couple of years (first-year model) and had no issues whatsoever. I actually traded it for an '08 M35, then for an '09 M35 Sport. We've owned a couple of FX35's, a G37 Coupe and now a G37 Vert. No issues with any. My M45 was rock solid. I'm assuming the M56 has a different powertrain? Re: the M56 in general, I think it is a lot of car for the money.

That is a tough situation indeed. I can see your dilemma.
Personally having owned a 3rd Gen GS, it has had its quirks, but for the most part it is a solid vehicle. If I were to go back in time and had the chance to change my decision, I probably would have went with a different vehicle, or wait for a GS460 to come into the dealer lot as it is a rare breed. More over, I think in terms of tech and such (if you like those things), The m37/m56 would be a better buy. A 2011 m56 would be a good purchase over a 3rd Generation Lexus GS in my honest opinion. I rarely see M56's here, mostly M37's.
I would bet that the m56 is just as reliable as a 3rd Generation Lexus GS (if not MORE reliable).

I haven't recently sampled an M56 (it's now known as the Q70), but I did a full-review on an M45 several years ago and was generally impressed with it. I like the way Infiniti uses matte-wood finishes that actually look like wood, highly-polished substitutes. Infiniti products, though, in general, tend to have a lot of Safety-Nanny devices that are, IMO, programmed too aggressively......one example is the lane-departure beeper that goes off if you stray as much as an inch from a perfectly straight path, or from a perfect arc around a curve. I finally gave up and turned it off.

So did you buy something? I am looking at a 2013 M56x to replace my 07 GS. My wife had an M35h which we loved in the summer but which kind of sucked as a winter car butb the gas awd solves those issues. If I could get an newer GS with V8 awd I probably would but they don't exist and the LS feels like a battleship (prefer the 430 hands down). I mile my cars to death and having owned an A6, XJ and 5 Series so I have no interest in a Euro car off warranty. Infiniti becomes the only game in town. Why doesn't Lexus give us that mid size v8 option? I would even have shrunk down to an awd ISF if they existed. A market is there.
