Being off the spiritual hook (if applicable) is one thing.....being off the legal one may or may not go along with it. The fact is that he still got three people killed...and a fourth badly injured, maybe for life. He also had previous records of driving-violations. The judge felt (correctly, IMO) that it was time to take this guy off the road for awhile...he does owe a debt to society. He may (?) also be liable for civil torts, but that is another whole matter.

mike you're obviously a very well-intentioned person and i have nothing negative to say about you, but in the future if i ever say anything that sounds ridiculous (like can you commit manslaughter but not be guilty because you know jesus) please realize i'm just being a sarcastic wiseass little s*** and it shouldn't be taken seriously. of course the BMW driver is guilty.

Now......back to this guy. Since I don't live very far across the Potomac River from the courthouse in Rockville, MD, I'm tempted to go to the sentencing hearing myself to see what will happen (though it will almost certainly be on the local news that night). Not sure if I actually will or not, though....the I-495 Beltway across the river is a gridlock mess more often than not, and I got tired of traffic gridlocks (and subway problems) back when I was working every day.
