I disagree,....in fact, there is plenty of debate (though personally, I can see both sides of the issue)....and that debate has been going on for decades.

if the 'speeder' wants to get by they'll eventually find a way, and the longer it takes them to get by the more aggressive they're likely to be in their passing attempt. the left lane has always been a PASSING lane... doesn't matter how fast you're going, if you're not passing people and you're holding up somebody trying to get by it's YOUR fault. there's no need for road warriors trying to "help out"
As I see it, those who are that immature, bull-headed, and unstable should not be behind the wheel to start with. Although not much emphasis is put on it in the U.S., there are definite mental and psychological necessities for having a drivers' license......and losing one's temper in the left lane, even behind slower traffic, is definitely not one of them.

you're absolutely right, however there are people out there that will try to do it anyway and there's really nothing that we can do about it. all we can do is make sure these situations are less likely to occur.
