It was obvious, even before Genesis became a separate division, that the 2nd-generation Hyundai Genesis (much more so than the first), had little or nothing to share with other Hyundais. In some areas, I felt it drove even better then the Equus.

You get into a Lincoln, its a tarted up Ford Fusion, Escape, or Expidition. Not worth the premium price, you can get away with tarting up a mainstream car if the luxury version is substantially different with way nicer trim
That was true until just recently. But, in the last few years, with the introduction of the Lincoln MKC, 2Gen MKX, the MKZ's refresh this year, and the all-new Lincoln Continental, the days of Lincolns being just re-trimmed Fords are rapidly expiring.

Getting back to the LaCrosse, IMO its competing with the Impala for sales as well, something GM is notorious for doing in the past, I just don't see that much of a differentiation between the two cars, both are big FWD sedans, around the same price, both GM, both drive similarly, IMO you just pick which one you think looks the best.
The new 2017 Lacrosse has better overall fit/finish than the Impala, but its driving dynamics, though good, still don't quite match up. The Impala is a surprisingly competent sedan that is both agile and very comfortable at the same time...a hard combination to master. It also has sound insulation on a par with Buick's much-hyped "Quiet-Tuning". And my opinion is not alone....Consumer Reports gave the present-generation Impala a 95 out of 100 in its road test.....numbers that are usually reserved for cars like the Lexus LS460, Mercedes S550, and Tesla Model S.

You are clearly looking at different Lincolns than I am LOL. IMHO they've never looked more like Ford models.

I think it started when we were comparing the LaCrosse's E-shifter with shifters in competing models. However, your point is taken.

I think Lincoln competes well with Buick and Cadillac. Not so much Genesis.

Lincoln's problem is combined dealerships, and not almost a complete model overlap with Ford products?
