Btw your typo on the car ' GL500 ' got me confused till I saw the picture.
ooops, sorry about the typo

yeah, my wife is spoiled. it's amazing she had the simplest request and ended up with an expensive choice. funny she said she is ok to not have MB SUV, but she would want me to get the remaining E63S. that thing is 120k, suddenly the GL550 sounded like a very "cheap" option!

in fact i also looked at the GLE63 but gosh that thing is 110k too!!! plus they never have good money factors on AMG cars

were you tempted at all by any of the changes for 2017 or was the money difference just out of sight and your wife didn't care about the differences anyway?

i love the GL/GLS. don't quite need that much room, but i could still see myself in one.
no, GL till 2016, that's why our car is 2016 GL550. starting 2017 they came out with the facelift version (same generation) and name changed to GLS

yeah that really blows my mind... i mean it's a very common option i would think, and the option itself is not that expensive. they could have added this in for most cars and people would still buy...

i dropped my jaw when i went through the ~30 inventory and saw none of them with ventilated seats... when my 2008 gs350 had it standard...

It's not hot in Germany, they don't need Ac seats

But in general, German Cars sucks at cooling the car, my M has 10 radiators to cool the motor, but the AC is so weak I never get comfortable during 110+ degree summer in Vegas :/ and despite I have ventilated seats in my 750, that never cools my butt, all I hear was the motor blowing with not much cooling effect

Ohh yeah, my Kia Sedona has great AC and cooling seats that actually work!

My BMW's both had poor AC. My E60's heat wasn't particularly strong either.

although when I had my GX, I didn't have any beef with it.

Congrats Henry! The GL is awesome. Love the exterior design and the interior is pure luxury. Still not a fan of COMAND, but that's my only nitpick with the car.

Glad you went for the 550. The engine produces a ridiculous amount of power and the GL drives so nice (especially considering how large it is). My parents still have a 2009 GL550 that's still running great.

i wouldn't say the barn door is a bit problem but it has definitely annoyed us more than few times

yes the command is so-so, the new touch pad is easier but not good enough to justify the much higher cost of ownership. to be fair, i don't think the lexus remote touch is that much better either...

depending on how this coming three years go, we will see if it makes sense to buy out the car. but the twin turbo kind of makes me think twice. it is good amount of power but on a 5500lb car i think it matches well.

now to imagine a renntech tune. for under 3k this car will jump almost 200hp (and tons more tq), it can walk away from a gl63!!!

thanks! here's a day time pic i took couple days ago. didn't get to drive it much but at least finally went through all the menus except the rses. quite a few neat stuff (and some not neat). front seat massage is surprisingly nice, didn't even know they have it standard on the 550, it's not human but still provide certain level of comforts. interior ambient light color is a nice gadget. cooling and heating cup holders that's very interesting. you just have to love how solid mb are, the door closing sound is so solid.

on the other hand, i can't believe they don't have key fobs memory association yet. their leather quality is not as good as lexus, unless you get designo package then you can finally get smooth and soft leather. the navigation screen is so small for a car of this size (even the new GLS screen isn't that impressive), and for almost 100k the car still has no HUD (LX570 has it).

I still don't get why this isn't pretty much standard and a given on luxury cars. GM started putting heads up displays in the Cutlass Supreme and Grand Prix in 1988 or 1989. Military pilots have had this type of system since the late 1950's, heck the original idea to project the radar scope onto the windscreen goes all the way back to WWII.

My point is it isn't new technology, its been around for decades.

On most Bmws as well, HUD usually built in with executive package which cost between 2500-5500 depends on models. Once you get used to it, it's very hard to live without it.
