2017 Q7 Prestige vs 2017 GLS450 test drives

yeah, my wife is spoiled. it's amazing she had the simplest request and ended up with an expensive choice. funny she said she is ok to not have MB SUV, but she would want me to get the remaining E63S. that thing is 120k, suddenly the GL550 sounded like a very "cheap" option!
in fact i also looked at the GLE63 but gosh that thing is 110k too!!! plus they never have good money factors on AMG cars
congrats!
just to be clear, the vehicle was the GL until 2016 model year, and became the GLS for 2017? and the GLS is a facelift version, is that all right?
were you tempted at all by any of the changes for 2017 or was the money difference just out of sight and your wife didn't care about the differences anyway?
i love the GL/GLS. don't quite need that much room, but i could still see myself in one.

i dropped my jaw when i went through the ~30 inventory and saw none of them with ventilated seats... when my 2008 gs350 had it standard...

It's not hot in Germany, they don't need Ac seats
But in general, German Cars sucks at cooling the car, my M has 10 radiators to cool the motor, but the AC is so weak I never get comfortable during 110+ degree summer in Vegas :/ and despite I have ventilated seats in my 750, that never cools my butt, all I hear was the motor blowing with not much cooling effect
Ohh yeah, my Kia Sedona has great AC and cooling seats that actually work!

Congrats! Really great choice, love those! Good for you wife.
My BMW's both had poor AC. My E60's heat wasn't particularly strong either.

Glad you went for the 550. The engine produces a ridiculous amount of power and the GL drives so nice (especially considering how large it is). My parents still have a 2009 GL550 that's still running great.

Congrats Henry! The GL is awesome. Love the exterior design and the interior is pure luxury. Still not a fan of COMAND, but that's my only nitpick with the car.

depending on how this coming three years go, we will see if it makes sense to buy out the car. but the twin turbo kind of makes me think twice. it is good amount of power but on a 5500lb car i think it matches well.
now to imagine a renntech tune. for under 3k this car will jump almost 200hp (and tons more tq), it can walk away from a gl63!!!

on the other hand, i can't believe they don't have key fobs memory association yet. their leather quality is not as good as lexus, unless you get designo package then you can finally get smooth and soft leather. the navigation screen is so small for a car of this size (even the new GLS screen isn't that impressive), and for almost 100k the car still has no HUD (LX570 has it).

I still don't get why this isn't pretty much standard and a given on luxury cars. GM started putting heads up displays in the Cutlass Supreme and Grand Prix in 1988 or 1989. Military pilots have had this type of system since the late 1950's, heck the original idea to project the radar scope onto the windscreen goes all the way back to WWII.
My point is it isn't new technology, its been around for decades.
