they could also decide to ignore the fwd stigma by only offering an awd suv, a la audi.
my choices last time around were between 3 fwd suv's and 1 rwd. I ended up buying the rwd one but it wasn't much of a factor.
I see what you mean by only offering AWD, but I was never really referring to the importance of offering a 2WD FWD option. I was just saying that from a cost competitive factor, sharing a platform with a Sante Fe or lets say Sorrento is going to allow Hyundai to compete more effectively with the likes of Lincoln, Lexus, Cadillac who dominate in the mid size crossover segment. The Mercedes and BMW alternatives in the mid size segment are all much more money in each segment. Part of this is from design, part of it is badge, and part of it is from where it is built.
I also stand by my comments that never believe everything you hear from company executives. Hyundai today announced that the Sante Fe is going 8 seats and larger for the 2020 model year. I am convinced Genesis will get a version.

Just in case you aren't aware...most of those Mercedes and BMW alternatives are built right here in the US. So...don't think shipping them here from Alabama is driving up the cost.
Thats exactly the point...if Genesis can deliver that vehicle for what people pay for lesser FWD transverse vehicles thats the value. Same as they did for the G80, they deliver a serious RWD car for FWD ES money. Why wouldn't they just come out with a version of the Cadenza FWD then? Because "the volume cars in that price segment are FWD too".
