All these "new car" reliability surveys are just a bunch of BS... and everybody knows that lol.
The real survey would probably contain only 2 brands.... Honda and Toyota and their luxury sub brands.

Well, if you think it is B.S., then show us a better one. Like it or not, the work that CR does collecting data for their reliability rankings is among the best that is available today......even comparing it to J.D. Power. I have also found, over many years, that their reliability results are close (or fairly close) to the experience of both myself and others with vehicle ownership.

The Encore and Verano both rank well above average in reliability (as the also Opel-based Cascada convertible also probably will, when more data comes in), but not quite as high as those 10 most reliable vehicles in CR's database. The Regal is also Opel-based, but generally sells poorly, and there probably isn't much data for it. The bigger, American-designed Buicks (LaCrosse and Enclave) are average to slightly above average in reliability, and aren't built quite as well as the smaller Opel-based Buicks....though the LaCrosse is now redesigned for 2017 and is starting over. The Chinese-built Envision, of course, is also brand-new, and has no meaningful data yet......we'll have to wait at least several more months. Last, you are always trying to compare the Verano to the Cruze, even though the true comparison is rather limited.....the Cruze ranks #8 on that list of Ten Most Reliable.

The reliability reports are somewhat legit, (bit it would be nice to see the raw data disclosed). The reviews suck and are useless. They should be released day and date with all the other publications. Maybe this forum needs a dedicated CR sticky thread.

Still a fan of CR and use them for much of my research and decisions. They are overall very accurate. However, I feel they've changed over the last five years. For example, when they stopped recommending the last Civic, they were off their rocker. Not recommending a car simply because of cheaper interior materials and one or two other very minor quibbles is ridiculous. It was still a very good and completely reliable car for entry people. They did the same with a few other solid cars. And their recommendation of the Tesla S Model, which continually gained poor reliability ratings was another sign CR lost some of their credibility.

CR is what it is, many people will religiously buy what they recommend or not, much like mainstream media and "biases" (CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc). The fact that the Escalade and the related Suburban/Yukon sell well for their segments despite being ranked at the bottom say otherwise if everyone thinks that CR makes every American car buyer's decisions.

Not everyone believes that reliability needs to be at the top of the list when buying a car. Lots and lots of people buy based on emotion and how they feel about a brand and how they respond to a vehicle.

Those people don't have a CR subscription, but rather Automobile
